"The setting at Blackbarn was perfect..a picture postcard day with the autumn sun falling on the outdoor dining area infront of the vineyards. We did not have a reservation but was thankful we could be accommodated for lunch last week. The express lunch option which had the lamb dish was outstanding however I opted for the sirloin steak and ordered medium rare and it came out not only well done - the meat was chewy and was borderline inedible. It ruined what would have been a perfect lunch during our holidays in Hawkes Bay but sadly the overcooked meat quite frankly should not have been served."

But the service? Well, if you enjoy waiting, then you’re in for a treat. We could’ve finished a bottle of wine (if they had taken our drink order before the sun set), cured a hangover, and written a novel in the time it took for them to take our food order. Honestly, I think we were being served by the ghost of service past. The waitress spilled water on the table and just... left it there. Not even a ‘sorry’—just let us marinate in it. Our wine glasses were empty for so long, we started debating if we should drink from the water puddle.
Food was worth the wait, but definitely bring a tent, some snacks, and maybe a good book to survive the service."
