What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Hanmer Springs Ski Area for its incredible powder snow and friendly, welcoming 'club field' atmosphere. It's a hidden gem offering a relaxed and authentic ski experience, though visitors should be prepared for the challenging road access and the need to bring their own food.
"I think it’s a great hidden ski place.
Snow chain is highly recommended, even though we made it to the top without one. As we were reluctant to put on in the begging , but we still put it one after we arrived. As we know for sure u can get down safely without one.
The place is small, warm and comfortable. Everyone there is super friendly.
Not much of people on the day we arrived, so basically no wait time for the lift.
Get on the lift is a bit hard, specially for snowboard, gonna have to take a bit leaning time for that.
But all worthy, the snow is super powder, like 70cm pure powder snow!
Better check weather first, can become very windy and no visible in bad weather.
If u finish around 3, maybe still get time to down and treat yourself with a hot SPA!
Oh, no much food there, bring you own lunch, tea & coffee free."

"First time on a 'club' field and loved it. Stayed on mountain Friday and Saturday night and could not have been made to feel more welcome. Only 2nd year skiing and this is what I thought skiing would be for me."

"We had 2 days at the Hanmer Ski Field (Amuri) and we loved every bit of it. We didn't stay at the lodge but definitely will in the future. On our first day, we drove up from Hanmer for some sledding. The slopes were empty and our 6yo had a great time. On our second day we did some skiing and snowboarding. We also has some 1 on 1 lessons. Everyone was so friendly and so willing to help out newcomers like us. Overall, it was a great experience and we'd love to come back.
Some tips from our Winter trip:
The drive from Hanmer is long and unsealed. It's a beautiful drive but make sure you check the conditions before you go and always bring chains.
There is no rental on the mountain (only sleds) you can hire gear from Hanmer Adventure before you go up. They also have have a shuttle up the mountain if you don't want to face the drive.
There is no food or Cafe on the mountain. They have a kitchen and tea/coffee facilities which can be used.
If you are having lessons, bring cash :)
Mobile phone reception is patchy. On Vodafone we only had voice/txt reception. Other carriers might be better."
