Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Totaranui's stunning natural beauty, particularly its expansive golden beaches and clear waters, making it a magical place for relaxation and outdoor activities. The spacious campsites and the serene atmosphere are highly praised, though the remote location and basic facilities like cold showers are noted. TikTokReddit

"About a 10 km drive on hilly gravel roads to get to the campground. Stayed in early November 2025 and bugs and weka were a bit annoying but nothing too bad. Tons of spots available for all types of vehicles. We had a whole lot to ourselves on a weekday evening. 3-minute walk to the beautiful beach for a nice swim or a nice gaze at the moonlight. No potable water but sinks for washing dishes. Cooking shed located near the registration office. If you book online you don’t have to register in-person."

Damian

"A Doc Campsite. Loved it, only stayed one night this time. We are planning to come back. Nice toilets with cold showers. It's right by the beach. Good walking tracks. Magical place to visit. We went in winter so not many in the camp. I hear that it is the biggest Doc Camp in NZ."

Cynthea Corbett

"Wanted to come and give a shoutout to Julie who went the extra mile for us to accommodate our arrival/departure time. This campground is a natural gem. There are great walks north and south of the campground and the facilities are ample. Do note that the showers are cold, but that was quite a refreshing way to begin the evening! The last 20 minutes or so of the drive here is a winding gravel road through beautiful NZ bushland. The sites are spacious and contain concrete pits for fires. Fantastic spot - thanks again for having us."
