What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Dunedin Street Art Trail for its vibrant and diverse collection of murals, offering a unique and engaging way to explore the city. While not always clearly marked, the art rewards those who take the time to wander and discover hidden gems. It's a free, accessible activity that provides both visual delight and a glimpse into the local creative spirit.
"This is a nice walk around the city streets with interesting murals. The walk is about 20 minute long and the murals are painted on various buildings across the area. It’s not a clearly marked path, however, plenty of tourists are around the area and can help guide. The murals are of various sizes, while the most interesting ones are those created in very narrow spaces between a couple of buildings. There are also several historic buildings dating back to the 17th century as well. Hence the walk provides not only viewing of the murals as well as an insight into the history of this city."

"Good walk if you like street arts. Some may be hidden in the alley, so keep an eye on them. I couldn't finish all of them, had to go to beer tour lol."
Phutawan Ho Wongyai
"Street art is scattered around and worthwhile if you have time to leisurely stroll around to explore the art. Quite a few op shops around the trail as well if you are into it!"

However, the real magic often lies in stumbling upon unexpected artworks. Redditors and TikTok creators alike emphasize the importance of wandering off the beaten path and looking in alleyways and side streets. This approach not only helps you find hidden gems but also allows you to appreciate the city's architecture and local life beyond the art itself. Comfortable shoes are a must, as you'll likely be doing a fair bit of walking.
For those looking to capture the art, the best times for photography are generally during daylight hours. Overcast days can be ideal as they provide soft, even lighting without harsh shadows, while golden hour can add a beautiful warmth to the murals. Remember to be respectful of the art and the surrounding environment as you explore.
