Check Google for sunset time and head out around then, then back for the city lights 🌅 It’s only $5.40 / adult with the Hop card or less if you’re a child / student etc ✔️ One of my favourite things to do in Auckland! For the best views 😍

Not being locals we parked and rode till
We found the path, rode the loop and then went exploring, this community is full of pathways and connections. Great for a coffee or wine on the way at the area where the ferries come in. We ended up riding more the 2.5 hours just cruising around exploring. Great weekend afternoon activity"

The Coast to Coast Walkway is a 16km urban trail that spans Auckland, connecting the Waitematā Harbour in the east to the Manukau Harbour in the west. It's divided into three main sections, each offering a unique perspective of the city and its natural beauty. The walkway is well-signposted, but having a map is always a good idea, especially for first-time visitors. Reddit+1

The final Part 3 takes you from the volcanic cones towards the Manukau Harbour, often passing through areas like Onehunga. Instagram+2

Many travelers opt to walk specific sections rather than the entire 16km. Popular choices include walking from the CBD to Mt Eden for the views, or exploring the harbor-side paths for a more relaxed experience. The Volcanic Heart of Auckland

A significant highlight of the Coast to Coast Walkway is its journey across Auckland's iconic volcanic cones. These dormant volcanoes, known as 'maunga', offer not only historical and cultural significance but also breathtaking panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. The most prominent cones on the walkway are Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill) and Maungawhau (Mt Eden). Instagram+1

TikTok Redditors often recommend timing your visit to these cones for sunrise or sunset to capture the most dramatic light and fewer crowds. TikTok+1

Remember that these are sacred sites for Māori, and visitors are encouraged to treat them with respect. The paths leading up are generally well-maintained, though some can be steep. Wearing appropriate footwear is essential for a comfortable climb. Reddit

Protecting Auckland's Natural Heritage

As you explore the Coast to Coast Walkway, especially sections that venture into native bush, you'll encounter the magnificent Kauri trees. These ancient giants are a vital part of New Zealand's natural heritage, and their preservation is a community effort. TikTok

To protect these trees from a devastating disease called Kauri dieback, it's crucial to practice good biosecurity. This means cleaning your shoes before and after walking in Kauri forest areas. Look for the provided shoe-cleaning stations at the entrances to these sensitive zones. TikTok This simple act helps prevent the spread of the disease, ensuring these iconic trees can be enjoyed by future generations. TikTok

Beyond Kauri, the walkway also offers opportunities to spot native birdlife and enjoy the diverse flora of Auckland's parks and reserves. It's a chance to connect with nature right in the heart of the city. Instagram
