What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Naarden Vesting for its impressive, well-preserved star fortifications and the engaging experience of walking the ramparts and exploring tunnels. The free entry with a Museum Card is a significant draw. However, some find the indoor museum exhibits a bit dated and the atmosphere damp, suggesting the admission fee might be high without a card.
"To be honest, this is a rather boring museum. Entry is free with the museum card, but without it, I wouldn't recommend spending money on a visit.
You can walk around the grounds and even try shooting a cannon (by pumping a plastic bottle with a pump—be careful not to get dirty), but there are hardly any interesting exhibits or stories. The indoor areas of the museum smell very damp. You get a sense of how people felt inside the fortress, but you won’t want to stay for long."

"Open-air museum with historical collection of armaments and history of the city of Naarden. A Dutch or English audio guide is provided and dogs are welcome if they are leashed. This bastion is also home to the Dutch Land Goats, which roam the area. For me it was a 2-hour experience. Afterwards, the city of Naarden itself can be explored.
Well worth to visit the UNESCO heritage site of the best preserved bastion of the Netherlands."

"Another visit since five years ago. Nothing has changed since then, except for an audio tour. The displays could really use a bit of modernisation. But it's worth a visit."
