What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for the Middelburg Canal Cruise are mixed, with many praising the friendly crew and scenic route, particularly the journey to Veere and around Lake Veere. However, the boat's interior is frequently described as dated and basic, with some issues like leaking windows. Potential cancellations due to low passenger numbers and less-than-ideal customer service from management have also been noted.
"The boat is really in need of a makeover; the double-glazed windows are leaking, making the view very blurry from some windows. The furniture and rugs are from the 80s. The downstairs toilets are closed due to COVID-19 (nice and easy, you don't have to clean them anymore). The captain and the boatswain were very friendly; the latter, without asking, gave us detailed information about the area and made the trip very interesting!
Unfortunately, the ceiling was too low, preventing the awful owner of Dijkhuizen from flying around on her witch's broom...what a woman!
There's no mention of a minimum number of participants on their website, but when it turned out there weren't enough people at the departure time, she simply wanted to cancel the trip. It wasn't profitable, so we had to complain to the management... (that's her) by email. She immediately started threatening us, telling us to cover the costs ourselves!
Ultimately, six people were found (by people who wanted to leave the boat) who wanted to join us. If the website or the confirmation email had mentioned a minimum number of participants, we and the other people on board wouldn't have driven that far, since the weather wasn't great. She didn't care at all about the fact that everyone had already invested a substantial amount in parking fees (i.e., pre-paid parking for at least four hours, €2.80 per hour)! This is, of course, a frequent occurrence, but she deliberately omits to mention it on the website! Never again for us!"

"A boat trip from Middelburg to Veere and back. With a group of elderly people who had difficulty walking. The welcome was excellent, and the captain was very friendly. We had beautiful weather and wanted to sit on the deck. This was possible with the elevator, which could only be operated by the staff, which I completely understand!
It's just a shame that the woman behind the (deserted) bar was "too busy" to help us. We had to stay upstairs for three hours until we got back to Middelburg. Disgraceful!! The weather was beautiful, and our guests wanted to enjoy the view and the sunshine. After angry remarks from both us and the guests, she operated the elevator with a very long face and not very friendly.
It's sad that they make people who are already bothered by something they have and need help feel even more burdened in this way. Fortunately, we had positive, friendly guides who were still able to make the boat trip a pleasant experience for our guests."

"We took a three-hour boat trip from Middelburg. The sun was shining, and we received excellent assistance in getting our wheelchair-bound passenger onto the deck using a small lift. There are chairs and tables there. The trip goes from Middelburg through a canal to the locks at Veere. More passengers then board in Veere. Afterward, the boat begins a circuit of Lake Veere, passing beautiful houses and various islands, where we also saw deer. Many other pleasure boats and sailors passed by. The same route from Veere back to Middelburg. There's no explanation on the boat itself, only a brochure upon arrival. The boat is basic but clean. Tablecloths are provided and refreshments are reasonably priced. Don't expect luxury."
