Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Leiden Old Observatory for its historical significance and the unique opportunity to interact with antique, functional telescopes. The student-led tours are frequently highlighted as a major positive, offering enthusiastic and knowledgeable insights. However, some visitors have experienced issues with tour cancellations, confusing ticketing information, and outdated vendor details, leading to disappointment.

"One of the most impressive buildings of Leiden. Although the observatory is not used anymore for nowadays research it is still functional. Normally I try to visit when a weekend of science is organized, then there are guided tours with enthusiastic astronomy students."

Helen

"The Oude Sterrewacht is a really cool building, I recently visited with my physics class to see real-life telescopes as we are discussing the chapter regarding astronomy. We were even allowed to rotate and use the telescope as they were still functional, but as we visited early in the morning, there was nothing to see through the telescope. Also, see the videos I've added where you can briefly see how the telescopes would spin. I definitely recommend visiting if there is an opening."

Pocket KOOL

"I ordered a ticket for the english tour and no one showed up. I recommend you save your 5 euro and just take pictures of the outside for free. Ticketing information is confusing and out of date. The vendor for payment is absolutely atrocious."
