"De Vorstin is the heart of Hilversum’s cultural revival. Where the youth center De Tagrijn once stood, a fire broke out, burning the past and opening the way for the new. This fire sparked a story of rebirth, strength, and hope. From the ashes rose De Vorstin — not just a concert hall, but a bridge between past and future, tradition and new technology, uniting music, art, and media as the city’s cultural core.The project was created by renowned architect Frits van Dongen from De Architekten Cie. The building is a bold yet respectful glance into history. Its wave-like aluminum faсade pays tribute to the Dutch “Nieuwe Zakelijkheid” movement of the 1920s–30s, where strict forms blend with lightness and dynamism. Originally planned as a “blob” design, height limits pushed part of the building underground, giving the façade a living, shifting play of light and shadow.The entrance features a “stairway to heaven” — narrowing upwards, creating an illusion of infinite ascent, symbolizing the pursuit of new cultural heights and inspiring every visitor. Climbing it, one feels the spirit of creativity lifting them above the ordinary, calling for discoveries and victories.Inside, De Vorstin carefully preserves the memory of the youth center and heroes of the past: mosaics in the lobby display symbols of Dutch Resistance — the Star of David and stylized blades — reminding of the region’s heroic history and links to the Resistance Museum (Verzetsmuseum). This is not only a music house but a keeper of memory.The main hall is lined with rare Javanese redwood, creating unique acoustics that envelop listeners with a soft velvet sound that embraces and immerses them in musical magic. Here every note comes alive and becomes three-dimensional, allowing the music to be felt fully.In 2025, De Vorstin underwent a technical upgrade: Robe PAINTES, LEDBeam 350, and Tetra1 lighting systems transformed the stage into a living palette where beams of light paint music in the air, conducting the audience’s emotions. These technologies not only enhance impressions but become part of the artistic expression.Since its completion in 2010, De Vorstin has been Hilversum’s cultural hub, winning the 2011 audience award as the city’s most beautiful new building.Under the stage lies a professional radio studio, where every Saturday the AVROTROS Muziekcafé program airs live. In the basement’s dim light, live sound is born and immediately spreads across the country on NPO Radio 2. The studio is operated by NEP and connected to Media Park — the Netherlands’ largest media hub. De Vorstin is part of a vast organism merging television, radio, and live art.This invisible artery of Hilversum — a city etched into global entertainment history — hosted the first castings of the iconic show “The Voice,” developed by Talpa under John de Mol and Roel van Velzen. Within these walls, an unknown idea first found its voice and soon exploded across screens worldwide. Hilversum, called “Europe’s voice center,” cemented its status as a TV creativity epicenter.Yet despite technology and innovation, deep inside De Vorstin lives something intangible — spirit. The spirit of music, freedom, and memory. Here the first chords of rock bands rang out and heavy guitar riffs thundered. Here theater and dance find common language. Here metal found a sanctuary — the stage beloved by heavy music fans, where each guitar sounds like a spell and every drumbeat pulses as a living legend.De Vorstin is not just a building, hall, or studio. "Every Saturday NPO Radio 2 broadcasts a live show at De Vorstin called Muziekcafé. Artists perform a couple of songs and have a interview with the show's host in front of a live audience. The show is free but there is limited space available, so get there early."

"We had a great night but if you could please allow for better accessibility. For older people, or injured to use the elevator (not only up, also down) and in general, the exit process was quite terrible... It took forever (bonus: the injured knee). Lady Blackbird made our night though!!"
