"I recently traveled an hour and a half by car from the west to visit the Athenaeum Library in Deventer. I'd heard and seen so many good things about this library. Upon arriving in Deventer, I borrowed a bicycle from a good friend to cycle through the city to this location. Once there, the entrance was closed, and the only way to ring the doorbell was through an intercom. A friendly-sounding woman came over the intercom and asked, "May I help you, sir? Do you have an appointment?" I hadn't made an appointment, assuming a library should be accessible at all times. The intercom informed me that I wasn't allowed in. After some insistence and a fair amount of frustration, I expressed my disappointment and left empty-handed. I was particularly disappointed that no one bothered to come to the entrance for at least a chat. Therefore, I would give this library a failing grade for hospitality and communication. A big disappointment and unfortunately not to be repeated!"
