What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Children's Book Museum for its enchanting displays and engaging interactive zones, particularly the toddler-friendly top floor and the creative character design area for older kids. While generally well-received, some note minor accessibility issues with restrooms and staircases for very young children. The cafe's limited offerings later in the day are also a point of feedback.
"Easy to get to from Centraal.
Had the impression that the museum is targeted at toddlers and smaller kids but decided to visit anyway. The basement is targeted at older kids with many interactive activities that earn them add ons to the character they build. They are decent difficulty levels and there is a little waiting for other kids but nothing inconvenient.
Loads of writings and quotes as they work through the various activities. Its a decent amount of activity and reading. We did two hours and were not fully done. Kids got hungry and cafe had run out of sandwiches so we left. This was around 2.45pm. This was a little disappointing. The staff at the cafe are lovely though.
You get a card on your way out as a souvenir.
There is a gift shop mostly in dutch."

"Came here with my 13m old and she LOVED it! It’s rare to have a museum where toddlers can freely walk about, but the entire top floor was suitable for her to do this, and she had such fun wandering from room to room and playing with anything interactive. I’m looking forward to coming here again with her when she’s older and can appreciate the 6y+ floor. The cafe is lovely, friendly staff at reception/gift shop, and the graphics/art work and displays are enchanting."

"+ Well decorated
+ nice selection of books
+ nice activities
- with small kids, the open staircase is super tricky. Would be great if they put a child-fence for security.
- to get to the toilets with a stroller is not ideal (the doors are not stroller friendly). No changing room for babies in the ladies toilet, and the disabled toilet is locked: you need to walk back to the reception to get the key. Not ideal when you’re with a little one.
- They mention that the top floor is for 0-6. But the games are best suitable for 3-6y old."
