What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Amsterdam bike tours for their immersive experience of the Dutch landscape and culture. Guides are frequently highlighted for their friendliness and knowledge, making the tours engaging and memorable. The scenic routes, whether through charming villages or lush fields, are a major draw, offering a refreshing escape and a picturesque adventure.
"Exquisite tour of north Amsterdam. Very well organised company with lovely staff, especially our tour guide (and professional photographer), Gus. Gus was wonderful and set time aside to answer all our questions as well as give us a stroopwafel for our cold endeavours. Really enjoy all the views and the photo opportunities. The stop and the cheese and clog farm was very fun and you are encouraged to eat as much as you can, if the peacocks don’t get there first. Great tour for seeing wildlife such as herons, chickens, goats, donkeys, horses, Shetland ponies, swans and cheese (the farm cat). Couldn’t recommend it enough. If you enjoy the outdoors and want a break from the hustling city, then this will be the highlight of your trip. Thank again Gus!"

"Our guide, Rinse, was terrific. We rode approximately 21 miles (34 km) with a large group, and he managed to keep us all safe, together, and entertained. The pedal-assist bikes make this tour easy enough for anyone to do. The bikes have different levels of assist, ranging from none to turbo, so if you want a little challenge, then you can turn it off. The whole tour is not non-stop riding. We took a few breaks along the way to learn about and admire the countryside. We stopped at a cheese and clog factory, which was a nice touch. Overall, this was a fantastic tour!"

"I had a truly memorable experience on Mike's Countryside Bike Tour! The route was detailed and showcased the stunning Dutch landscape in a way that was both stimulating and engaging. Pedaling through charming villages and picturesque fields left me in awe. Our guide, David, made the tour even more special with his friendly demeanor and knowledgeable anecdotes. I can't recommend this tour enough. Thank you, David, for an unforgettable day!"

🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry

Prices vary depending on the tour length, type (guided vs. self-guided, e-bike vs. regular), and inclusions. Expect to pay anywhere from €30 to €100+ per person.
While some companies offer 'free' walking tours where you tip the guide, most dedicated bike tours have a set price. Be wary of anything that seems too good to be true.
Guided tours usually include a bike, helmet, a knowledgeable local guide, and sometimes stops at points of interest or refreshments.
Many tours cater to all skill levels, and e-bikes can make longer or more challenging routes accessible. Guides are usually patient with beginners.

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider an e-bike tour if you want to cover more ground without tiring out the little ones. Some tours are specifically designed to be family-friendly, with stops at attractions that appeal to children. Always ensure children wear helmets and that you follow local cycling rules diligently to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
💰 Budget Travelers
Self-guided tours using a rented bike and a good map or navigation app can be a cost-effective alternative to guided tours. Pack your own snacks and water to save on expenses during your rides. Exploring the city's free attractions like parks and canal-side paths by bike is a great way to experience Amsterdam without breaking the bank.

Navigating Amsterdam's Bike Lanes
Be mindful of other road users, including trams, buses, and pedestrians who may cross bike paths unexpectedly. Some areas, like the city center, can be particularly congested. For a more relaxed experience, consider cycling during off-peak hours or exploring quieter neighborhoods and parks.
When parking your bike, always use a sturdy lock, preferably two. Bike theft is a common issue in Amsterdam. Look for designated bike racks or the city's innovative underground bike garages for secure parking.
Choosing the Right Bike Tour for You
If you're seeking a more adventurous or scenic outing, consider a countryside tour. These excursions typically involve e-bikes and take you through picturesque Dutch landscapes, past windmills, tulip fields (in season), and quaint villages like Zaanse Schans. These tours offer a refreshing escape from the urban bustle and a glimpse into traditional Dutch life.
For those looking for something truly unique, there are novelty tours like the Mario Kart-themed bike rides, offering a fun and playful way to see the city. When selecting a tour, check the duration, distance, and whether an e-bike is provided, especially if you're not a seasoned cyclist or plan to cover significant ground.
The Art of Bike Parking in Amsterdam
For enhanced security, especially if you're leaving your bike for an extended period, using two different types of locks is recommended. This makes it more difficult for thieves to break both. Many rental bikes come with a good quality lock, but consider bringing an extra one if you plan on extensive exploration.
Amsterdam has also invested in impressive underground bike garages, some of which are quite innovative, featuring conveyor belts to take bikes down. These offer a high level of security and are a fascinating sight in themselves. Always ensure your bike is locked to a fixed object if possible, even when using a rack.
