What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Museum Flehite is praised for its historical charm, unique miniature town, and engaging temporary art exhibitions. Visitors appreciate the blend of local history and art within the beautiful medieval buildings. While some find it less exciting than other attractions, many recommend it, especially for Museumkaart holders, for its manageable size and insightful displays.
"Very nice historical museum, the route was clear at most points and gets you past everything there. Especially nice was the miniature town depicting the town as it was a while ago, minus the random car and moped that were rather out of place. It's fun to see the different angles within the paintings throughout the museum that with the help of the miniature allows you to figure out where the painter was viewing the town from. Which makes it possible for you to go there yourself and see the difference; it's a great way for engagement even outside of the museum. Overall a very fun, historical experience that I can recommend."

"I visited the museum in May, 2025, when a very substantial show of paintings by Wessel Huisman was presented across the entire museum. The building is gorgeous and well located. Huisman's work consists of a re-reading of Classical perspective laws through a modern sensitivity. I found the work beautiful, thought-provoking, and made with tremendous skill."

"All about Mathias Withoos, something new from me.
The only problem was that there were no explanations in English only in Dutch.
Thanks God,a visitor who was kind explained me about the family Withoos and their way of seeing the nature then in 17 th centery and later by Hans ,1962.
Nature as an unit, life is ours only temporary, all you have today tomorrow could be dust,,,themes of painting.
The video from the end it's interesting also,to see how technology today, can change the reality in art."

These exhibitions often span the entire museum, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the artist's vision. The 'Pissing Polar Bear' Phenomenon
The sculpture was intended to raise awareness about global warming and its impact on polar bear habitats, with the bear's 'asocial' behavior mirroring human interactions with nature. While it was a unique attraction, it also led to complaints from residents about noise and perceived nuisance, prompting the museum to implement 'quiet hours' for the bear.
Although the 'Pissing Polar Bear' is no longer on display, its presence highlights the museum's willingness to host thought-provoking and sometimes unconventional art installations that generate public discourse and draw visitors. It remains a memorable part of the museum's recent history.
Exploring Amersfoort's History Through Miniatures
This miniature model is particularly effective because it helps visitors understand the spatial context of historical paintings displayed in the museum. By seeing where a painter might have stood, you can gain a new appreciation for their work and even try to find those exact viewpoints in the modern city. This interactive element encourages engagement beyond the museum walls.
For history buffs and art lovers alike, the miniature town provides a unique educational tool and a memorable visual experience. It’s a clever way the museum connects its collection to the living history of Amersfoort, making the past tangible and relatable.
