Reviews Summary

Mrigasthali Deer Park is appreciated for its peaceful atmosphere and spiritual significance, offering a calming respite near Pashupatinath Temple. Visitors enjoy the presence of deer and the serene environment along the Bagmati River. However, some note a decline in tranquility due to increasing commercialization and a lack of lush greenery in certain areas.

"Mrigasthali in Kathmandu, also known as Mrigasthali Deer Park, is a peaceful spot located near Pashupatinath Temple along the Bagmati River. It is a nice place for a short walk. There’s a lack of grass around the deer area, which makes it less green and inviting."

Karishma Parajuli

"This is one of my favorite place. The Mandir of Guru GorakhNath is the highly Spiritual place and the center of the "Nath Sadhu" or Nath Sampradaya. Guru GorakhNath was seated there in Aashana of Naga and Cloud for 14 years. MatsyendraNath Jatra related to that incident. That's why Yogi Narahrinath wrote : मृगस्थली स्थली पुण्या भाल नेपाल मण्डले, यत्र गोरक्षनाथेन मेघमालासनीकृता।
The name 'Mrigasthali' is quite interesting. 'Mriga' means Deer and 'Thali' means Place. That's why we call it "Mrigasthali". There's a story from 'Himabatkhanda' of 'Skandapurana'. When all the Ashura looted and defeated Sworga and Indra, all the Devagana came ho hide in this place.

It's my favorite because of the spiritual means and peaceful environment. But recently there are shops, kungu, tenis, chatpate and the Sound pollution. It's not good for the place. Please don't throw garbage here."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Spiritual Heart of Mrigasthali

Mrigasthali is more than just a deer park; it's a place of deep spiritual significance, particularly for followers of the Nath Sampradaya. The Guru GorakhNath Temple within the park is a central hub for these devotees. Legend has it that Guru GorakhNath meditated here for 14 years, making it a sacred site for spiritual practices and pilgrimage. The name 'Mrigasthali' itself, meaning 'Place of Deer,' hints at its ancient connection with nature and wildlife. Reddit

This spiritual aura is what draws many visitors seeking peace and reflection away from the city's chaos. The historical and mythological narratives associated with the place, as mentioned in texts like 'Himabatkhanda' of 'Skandapurana,' add layers of cultural depth. It's a place where one can feel a connection to Nepal's rich spiritual heritage. Reddit

Navigating the Deer Park Experience

The presence of freely roaming deer is the main attraction at Mrigasthali. Visitors often enjoy observing them and, for some, the experience of feeding them. However, it's crucial to approach this interaction with respect for the animals and the environment. While some reviews mention a lack of lush grass, the park still offers a unique opportunity to see these creatures in a semi-wild setting. Reddit

Recent observations suggest an increase in commercial activities, with shops and vendors selling various items. While this can add to the local economy, some visitors feel it detracts from the park's original tranquility. Responsible tourism practices, such as avoiding littering and being mindful of noise, are essential to preserve the park's serene character for future visitors and the deer themselves. Reddit
