What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the immense marble Buddha statue and the panoramic views from Mindhamma Hill. While many appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, especially on weekdays, some find the presence of fortune tellers and souvenir vendors a distraction. The lake with fish and tortoises is a hit with families.
"The most beautiful Buddha statue made of one single marble piece 🙏💛"

"It's a unique Buddha Image sculpted out of one collosal white marble stone, located upon top of a hill. So you can expect a good, fresh air and of course, a good viewpoint. It's usually crowded on the weekends. So, if you want to go and explore or say your prayers peacefully, you should go there on weekdays.
What I especially dislike is that there are many fortunetellers and palm readers doing ritual businesses around the place. And there are many statues of traditional Nats (Spirits) and Nat shrines.
Apart from those, this place is good for families. Can hang around all day long peacefully.
There is a pretty big lake at the bottom of the hill where you can feed the fish and tortoises too. As usual, there are some shops selling remembrance stuffs and other merchandise."

The Lawkachantha Abayalarbamuni Kyauk Taw Gyi Buddha Image
This unique sculpture is not just a religious icon but also a testament to artistic and engineering prowess. The process of quarrying, transporting, and carving such a massive block of marble would have been an immense undertaking. Its placement atop Mindhamma Hill further enhances its grandeur, making it visible from a distance and offering a focal point for visitors. The statue's smooth, polished surface reflects light beautifully, especially during sunrise and sunset, adding to its ethereal quality.
While the marble Buddha is the primary attraction, the surrounding complex also holds cultural significance. You'll find other Buddha images within the central hall, alongside pairs of guardian statues at each corner, embodying traditional Buddhist temple architecture. The presence of traditional Nat shrines also adds another layer to the spiritual and cultural experience of the site.
Navigating Crowds and Atmosphere
Beyond the religious aspects, the temple grounds also feature a lively mix of cultural elements. You'll encounter numerous fortune tellers and palm readers conducting their businesses around the site. While some visitors find this adds to the local color, others express a dislike for these distractions, particularly if they are seeking a purely spiritual or quiet visit. The presence of many statues of traditional Nats (spirits) and their shrines also contributes to the unique, albeit sometimes busy, atmosphere.
Despite the potential for crowds and commercial activity, the temple is widely regarded as a good place for families. The large lake at the bottom of the hill, where visitors can feed fish and tortoises, provides an engaging activity for children. The overall environment, especially on weekdays, is described as peaceful and suitable for spending a significant amount of time exploring and reflecting.
