Reviews Summary

Visitors find Lemyethna Temple a refreshing change with its unique white-washed, single-storey design and 'Temple of Four Faces' architecture. The preserved murals are a highlight, though some areas around the foundations are off-limits. Be prepared for extremely hot ground, especially in the afternoon, making early morning or late visits advisable.

"Unusual as being white-washed and having only a single-storeyed- structure. Its names after its builder who was a minister at the court of King Htilominlo in 1223. It’s alternately known as the Temple of Four Faces with porches protruding from all four sides. I'm intrigued about the area with a matrix of stone foundations that is "Off limits to the ladies" (see photo below)?? . Some relatively well preserved murals inside."

"The only one building where we can climb in Bagan, 2020.
Building design are amazing.
View are beautiful."

"Cool temple, certainly different than most of the other temples in the area as it is white instead of brick colored. Worth a visit, and can easily be combined with Winido Temple, Iza Gawna Pagoda, Narathihapatae, Thambula, and a host of other great and criminally overlooked temples that can be found on the same road. The ground at this place gets insanely hot and there are no carpets, light colored stones, or shade to regulate the temperature, so if you go later in the afternoon you might not make it too far inside before turning around in agony as your feet melt"

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

Lemyethna Temple offers a visually distinct experience that can capture children's attention with its unique white facade. However, the intense heat on the ground, especially during midday, can be a significant challenge for younger visitors. It's crucial to plan your visit for the cooler parts of the day, like early morning or late afternoon, and ensure children wear appropriate footwear or socks to protect their feet. Reddit

While the main temple structure is accessible, be aware of the 'off-limits' areas around the stone foundations, which might limit exploration for curious kids. Consider bringing water and snacks, as facilities might be limited. Combining this visit with other, perhaps more interactive, temples or activities in Bagan could create a more balanced itinerary for families. Reddit

This stark contrast to the typical red-brick temples makes it a visually striking landmark. Inside, visitors can find relatively well-preserved murals, adding another layer of historical and artistic interest. The temple's design is considered amazing by many visitors, offering a different aesthetic experience compared to its more famous counterparts. Reddit

While the main structure is the primary draw, the surrounding area features a matrix of stone foundations. However, it's important to note that some of these areas are designated as 'off-limits,' particularly for women, so be mindful of these restrictions. Reddit

Navigating the Heat and Terrain

A significant aspect of visiting Lemyethna Temple, as highlighted by many travelers, is the intense heat radiating from the ground. The area lacks carpets or shade, causing the stone surfaces to become insanely hot, especially in the afternoon. This can make exploring the temple and its surroundings quite uncomfortable if not prepared. Reddit

To mitigate this, it's highly recommended to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon when temperatures are more bearable. Wearing footwear that is easy to remove, such as sandals or slip-on shoes, is practical, as you may need to take them off to enter certain areas. Some visitors suggest bringing thick socks as an alternative to protect your feet from the hot ground. Reddit

Combining Lemyethna Temple with nearby sites like Winido Temple and Iza Gawna Pagoda is a common strategy. This allows for a more comprehensive exploration of the area while managing your time effectively to avoid the peak heat of the day. Reddit
