Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the Kasbah des Oudayas for its stunning blue and white architecture, breathtaking ocean views, and charming, historic atmosphere. It's praised as a free, picturesque escape that feels like a living museum. However, some caution is advised regarding unsolicited guides who may try to charge for their services.

"Great place, very beautiful. It has great viewpoint and really nice vibe. However, please be aware of the scammers who say that it will close soon and they will take you around because they will only want to take your money"

Iva Krasimirova

"This is a
Fascinating area to walk around with some great views of the Altlantic ocean. It is a warren of little lanes that you can get lost in but it really isn’t that big so not a real problem. There are guides available but agree a price upfront. Also beware that if you are walking around on your own people will approach you and start talking to you. These then turn out to be guides and will demand money even if you have not agreed to it. This happened to us. A older man started talking to us unprompted and started explaining things he then demanded a lot of money, which we refused to pay. So beware but it is a good place to walk around."

Andrew Mattocks-Lewis

"A delightful well restored fortified town with a beach attached. Inhabited by real people do doesn’t feel like a museum.

Shame they have changed their original colour scheme of white-and-blue walls though."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Charm of the Blue and White Alleys

The Kasbah des Oudayas is renowned for its distinctive blue and white architecture. As you wander through the labyrinthine alleys, you'll be captivated by the uniformity of these colors, creating a serene and visually striking atmosphere. This aesthetic is a hallmark of Moroccan coastal towns and offers endless opportunities for stunning photography. Many visitors describe it as a 'dream setting' and a place that feels like stepping back in time. TikTok+2

These narrow streets are not just visually appealing; they are also home to local residents, giving the Kasbah a lived-in feel rather than being a sterile museum. You'll find small artisan shops, cafes, and glimpses into daily life. The Andalusian Garden, nestled within the Kasbah, offers a tranquil escape with its lush greenery and fountains, providing a peaceful contrast to the bustling alleys. TikTok

Oudayas Beach: A Local Surf Haven

Beneath the imposing ramparts of the Kasbah lies Oudayas Beach, a popular spot for local surfers. Unlike more developed tourist beaches, Oudayas retains a raw, authentic charm, with minimal modern infrastructure directly on the sand. This is precisely what gives it its 'brut' appeal. Instagram

The beach is a hub of activity, especially for surf photography and watching passionate riders navigate the waves. Even if you're not a surfer, the energetic atmosphere and the sight of the ocean meeting the shore are captivating. It's a great place to experience the local coastal culture and enjoy the vibrant energy of Rabat's seaside. Instagram+3

Navigating and Avoiding Scams

While the Kasbah des Oudayas is a delightful place to explore, visitors should be aware of potential scams. Unsolicited individuals may approach you, offering to act as guides and explain the history or point out sights. While some may be genuine, others have been known to demand money aggressively, even if you haven't agreed to their services. Reddit

Key advice from travelers is to politely but firmly decline any unsolicited offers of guidance. If you do wish to have a guide, it's essential to agree on a price upfront before the tour begins. This proactive approach can help ensure a smoother and more enjoyable experience, allowing you to focus on the historical beauty and charm of the Kasbah. Reddit
