Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Herceg Novi City Museum for its charming atmosphere, rich historical artifacts, and the beautiful botanical garden with stunning bay views. The affordable entry and welcoming staff are frequently highlighted as positives. However, one visitor experienced an issue with being locked in after closing, underscoring the importance of confirming operating hours.

"Cute museum with a lovely garden. However we got locked in when there was 10 minutes left to the closing time. No one was left at the museum. We were about to call the police but luckily we managed to climb over the fence and get out. Wouldn't come back"

Jessica

"Wonderful place for a short visit if you're exploring the history of Herceg Novi. The city museum "Mirko Komnenović" is set in a quiet area of the town's center, in the middle of a small, botanical garden that dates back in time almost 200 years ago. In the reception area you can buy more than affordable tickets, that can be used as postcards after the visit.

A more than welcoming and well-mannered curator of the permanent museum exhibition will kindly answer questions related to the history of town, museum and museum exhibits among which you can see even the artifacts that date way back to 5 centuries B.C. One of the museum's most beautiful pieces is a parapet plate, from the 2nd half of the 11th century that belongs to the final pre-Romanesque art and represents the scene of angels who are adoring the cross from the church of st. Thomas Kuti. Among the museum's artifacts are various pieces of clothing, plates, furniture, weaponry and etc.

Considering that the museum is adapted to the house of former mayor of Herceg Novi, one of the rooms on the lower level is dedicated to him and his family, in honor of his legacy. There you can see his accomplishments and pictures of awarded medals, as well as personal items and presidential chair that was used during the time of his mayorship.

The upper level is more than intriguing, and has several thematically organized rooms in which you can see his old nautical items, spiritual corner and different icons that date back to 17th, 18th and 19th century.
One of the most beautiful views on the entrance of the bay can be seen from the balcony of this museum.

Seating area is set outside the building in a botanical garden, that earlier contained many different plant varieties.

Absolute must see if you're visiting town, if you're fond of history and want to take a break from the city bustle."

"Interesting museum with expositions ranging from history of the country to traditional costumes, music instruments and tools.

It’s impressive that the rooms of the former family who lived there are preserved and you can feel a touch of old times. The absence of signs “Don’t touch” were also a pleasant surprise.

Outside is a nice garden with a lonely lovely bench overlooking the bay. We visited it for free in the Museum day but I’d gladly pay 3€ for it."
