What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking beauty and immense scale of Grutas de la Catedral, calling it a true natural wonder. The challenging drive is consistently mentioned but deemed absolutely worth it for the jaw-dropping underground caverns and the rich stories shared by knowledgeable guides. Some note that photos don't do justice to the experience.
"From coming off the main road it's about 35-45 mins drive in to town down to Cathedral entrance. From visitor gate it's 15 kilometers going down a dirt road. It's so worth it the pictures don't even impress how beautiful and big it is. The tour was about 1-1.5 hour we got there late in day and still enjoyed. If you want to see both caves get there early and lots of hiking trails if you want to really explore and it's so beautiful. Our tour guide, Jesus Fuentes, visited the site as a child when it was not secured and has worked there over 25 years. He has so many great stories, ghost stories too. He even pointed out a tiny bat."

"Recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle. We were in a Toyota Tacoma and drove right to the cave. "Jose", the elderly guide, was very pleasant. The cave is mainly one enormous, highly decorated room, but worth the arduous drive to see :) 70 pesos each, and tip for guide. There is camping and cabanas available, but we did not see them."

"A bit hard to get there (24 km off-road); but once you do it you will gain jaw-dropping view of underground caverns, formations and paths. The old guide may tell you the chilling stories that have taken place there."
