Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty and refreshing waters of the cenotes, with many highlighting the unique 'fish pedicure' and cliff jumping opportunities. The well-maintained grounds and friendly atmosphere at places like Cenote Azul are frequently praised. However, some visitors note that popular cenotes can become very crowded, diminishing the sense of tranquility.

"Cenote Azul was incredible!! Gorgeous, fun, family atmosphere. It was really fun to see everyone cheering for nervous cliff jumpers. There are so many cenotes to explore. You get a free pedicure from the fish 😂, honestly I recommend water shoes, there are slippery bits and some of the rocks are pointy. The lockers and snacks are very reasonable. If you want to eat, I recommend getting the empanadas earlier than later, they were out by the time we checked.

My whole family enjoyed it! I’ll be recommending this spot to everyone and would definitely return! If you’re a non Spanish speaker, I found many of the employees speak English as well."

"It was my first time exploring a Cenote. It was my first time leaving the U.S. Yet it was a wonderful experience. The water was beautiful, the people visiting the area were beautiful, the wildlife was abundant, but they seemed harmless, and didn’t approach unless you tried to feed them, and there were several bad asses whom seemed to not think the rules applied to them, but hey! It was very entertaining. Let just let the photos speak for themselves."

"This was our first of three cenotes on our long weekend break and it was awesome! We managed to get parking inside which was perfect but if it is full, there is room to park on the side of the main road.
The grounds are beautiful with nice paths throughout. There are a few different areas you can get in (including some smaller pools) and there's a deep area that you can jump in, there's a low platform and a higher jump.
I loved the fish 'pedicure' ❤️
This cenote does get busy but well worth the visit and the price is good too."

Understanding Cenotes: Nature's Wonders

Cenotes are natural pit or sinkhole formed by the collapse of limestone bedrock, exposing groundwater underneath. The Yucatán Peninsula is famous for its thousands of cenotes, many of which were sacred to the ancient Maya civilization. These natural pools vary greatly in size, depth, and formation, from open-air swimming holes to deep, cavernous systems. TikTok

Visiting a cenote offers a unique opportunity to swim, snorkel, and dive in incredibly clear, fresh water. The geological formations within the cenotes, such as stalactites and stalagmites, add to their mystical allure. Some cenotes are part of larger underground river systems, offering extensive exploration possibilities. Instagram

It's important to understand the 'cenote theory' mentioned in some discussions, which often refers to the historical and spiritual significance of these sites for the Maya. They were considered portals to the underworld and were often used for rituals and offerings. TikTok Respecting these natural and cultural sites is paramount for preserving them for future generations.
