Janitzio Cemetery during Day of the Dead is described as a beautiful, amazing, and unforgettable experience, particularly for its candlelit spectacle at night. Visitors appreciate the vibrant traditions and the unique atmosphere. "Such a beautiful and amazing place for Dia de Los Muertos!!! Such a memorable place to go to!!! We went November 2017 and it was our first time going. The boats run all night that night and it’s beautiful to see at night!! Highly recommend. It’s super crowded but worth experiencing once in a life time"

"We arrived at Janitzio Island around 1:30 PM on Day of the Dead. There were a lot of people. There were no signs to the cemetery, but you could easily get there by following the flow of people. The cemetery isn't very large, but it was a beautiful and wonderful place. There was also a long line at the port on the way back. There were a lot of tour groups, so it was hard to tell where the end of the line was, so you had to ask people around you or work your way back through the line yourself to find out."

"I don't know when the worship and homage to the dead became a tourist attraction, but this site is the pinnacle of this ancestral modification. They've lost the original traditions and now they've turned it into a sort of all-night, funereal event intended to attract more people and market something that was once sacred and intimate."
