What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Ex-Hacienda San Gabriel de Barrera for its beautiful grounds, extensive gardens, and impressive colonial architecture, offering a tranquil and historically rich experience. However, some guests have noted that certain areas were under maintenance during their visit, with visible tools or hoses, which could detract from photo opportunities. Occasional issues with power outages or a lack of staff have also been mentioned, impacting the overall ambiance.
"Beautiful grounds, gardens, and architecture. The star deduction comes from a lot of areas being under significant maintenance with ladders laying against fountains or walls, hoses running across walkways, trash bags and tools located in main areas. As a photographer it was hard to get good shots when these items are sitting in the middle of a lot of good shots. Also, the lady in front did not want to give me any change and asked me to pay in exact amount or else I couldn't get in.
I also had to walk to the hotel next door to get a taxi back into town. It was about 70-80 pesos one way."

"WELL worth the visit & low cost entrance fee. You can spend hours taking photos or just enjoying the tranquility. Highly reccomend visiting."

"It was ok. If you have been to fancy homes or mansions in other places this one falls short of the granduermostly. Also the power was out and they were blasting a generator to keep the offices cooled or powered at least. This destroyed the ambiance and the displays were not even lit. There were no staff except gardeners. The fountains and everything were shut off. It just felt abandoned. I wouldnt recommend going unless you have a car or something. Theres a bus for 9 pesos but its not worth it."
