Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Museo Soumaya's breathtaking architecture and free admission, calling it a stunning cultural gem. While the art collection is extensive and diverse, some find the interior layout challenging and note the lack of natural light. It's highly recommended for its visual impact and accessibility, making it a worthwhile stop, especially when in the Polanco area.

"Gorgeous architecture with free admissions! A few smaller art galleries with sculptures and paintings along with artifacts inside. Life size replica of David sculpture. Worth the quick visit if you are already in the area but not to go specific just for this museum as the galleries were smaller than I envisioned. Took about 45 min."

Jaja C

"The museum is free however I do recommend getting there early if you want to take pictures while avoiding crowds. The museum is comprised of 6 floors, the staff recommends going up to the 6th floor in the elevator and going down from there. The floors are all connected by ramps so it's accessible to most. I think most works are not originals but they have a similar effect as the real works. Many statues are carved in the same material as the original one. It's a nice way to spend your morning. Won't take up more than 2 hours."

Museo Soumaya is an absolute must-visit in Mexico City. The architecture alone is breathtaking — a futuristic, shimmering structure that stands out as a true landmark in the city. Inside, the museum houses an impressive and diverse collection of art, from European masters like Rodin and Dalí to Mexican icons and historical artifacts.

The layout is unique, with a spiral ramp that takes you through various eras and styles. The top floor, filled with sculptures and bathed in natural light, is especially memorable.

Best of all, admission is free, making world-class art accessible to everyone. Whether you're an art lover or just curious, Museo Soumaya offers an inspiring experience that blends culture, beauty, and innovation. Highly recommended!"

Architectural Marvel: Design and Structure

Designed by Fernando Romero, the Museo Soumaya is an architectural icon in Mexico City. Its distinctive, undulating facade is composed of over 16,000 hexagonal aluminum tiles, creating a shimmering, almost organic appearance. The building's structure is a marvel of engineering, supported by 28 curved columns, each with unique angles and geometries, allowing for vast, open interior spaces. TikTokInstagram

Inside, the museum features a continuous ramp that spirals upwards, guiding visitors through its various collections. This design choice, while visually striking, has been noted by some as challenging for art display and visitor navigation, with a lack of natural light in many areas. However, the sheer ambition and innovative approach to its construction make it a significant landmark in contemporary architecture. TikTokReddit
