Reviews Summary
Rakata Krakatoa offers a high-energy reggaeton and urban music experience in Cancun's Hotel Zone, attracting a younger crowd. However, numerous recent reviews highlight severe safety concerns, including alleged druggings and theft, particularly with open bar packages. Some visitors also reported disrespectful staff behavior.
"BEWARE DANGER!!! DO NOT GO HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! my friend and I bought the open bar pass on a Saturday night and immediately got drugged by the bartender from our first two tequila shots. Our phones and wallets were stolen and we have no memory of what happened during our time there. My friend was kidnapped and found by a local person 10 km away passed out in the middle of the main road. We are both lucky to be alive but this experience left us shaken. We have been to Colombia, Thailand, Cuba but we have NEVER been in a situation as dangerous as this. From what we gathered talking to the locals, there is a small coordinated gang doing this and they have been getting away with it for a while. Police will not help and no one wants to get too involved in case they get targeted. I'm sure that there are many safe places in Cancun but after this we will never come back and we will never recommend Cancun for anyone to come to. Rakata is not safe at all
Update-
The proper authorities do nothing and I highly doubt your establishment will do anything about it either considering how you responded to this. Please look into your staff and video footage to make sure this doesn't happen again. You are only ruining your reputation. Before arriving to the party zone we were told that not many people come there like they used to because of incidents like this"

"The club was decent — the vibe was okay and the music was average (there’s definitely better elsewhere).
But I’m giving 1 star because of the way the staff treats people.
If you're a woman, they treat you like a queen.
But if you're a man, they treat you like garbage.
I almost got into a fight with a security guard who pushed me aggressively just to let a woman pass — I was shocked by how rude and unprofessional he was.
Also, we entered the club with two female friends through regular admission.
Later, one of the servers tried to convince our friends to go to the VIP section with some Latino guys (I assume they were regular clients or had paid extra).
Even when our friends refused and said they wanted to stay with us, the server kept insisting, pressuring them to leave us and go to VIP.
Totally disrespectful and uncomfortable experience."

"Let me start off by saying I don’t usually leave reviews but I am extremely disturbed by my experience here. The staff was very disrespectful to my friends and I - so much so that we wanted a refund and no longer even wanted to go to the club due to the bad energy from bouncers/ staff. We ended up going in anyway to not allow our night to be complete ruined , just to be jam packed like sardines and wait in line for the overpriced bar! My male friend was treated very poorly by the male staff, who mostly stood around lusting over women instead of running drinks(be careful ladies). The bar/club 24k is so much better-cheaper entry fee that came with 5 free drinks and bouncers that are much more chill and friendly!!! I wish I would’ve got the names of the rude workers but I will never return and continue to spread the word to anyone who asks about where to club in Cancun. Based on a few other low ratings , seems like management needs to develop some professionalism before their ill mannered staff forced them to lose more business. Thank you."

Safety Concerns and Traveler Experiences
One review specifically mentioned a coordinated gang operating in the area, and the police's perceived lack of action. This has led to a strong sentiment of distrust and a recommendation to avoid the establishment altogether. While Cancun offers many safe experiences, these reports highlight a significant risk factor associated with Rakata.
It's important to balance these alarming reports with the fact that some visitors have had positive experiences, particularly regarding the music and party atmosphere. However, the severity of the safety concerns cannot be overlooked, and potential visitors should weigh this heavily in their decision-making process.
The Music and Atmosphere
Videos often capture the lively crowd, the pulsating music, and the general excitement of a night out. For those who enjoy reggaeton and a strong party vibe, Rakata can deliver an engaging experience. The club's location in the Hotel Zone also means it's a hub for tourists looking for a quintessential Cancun nightlife adventure.
However, the overall experience can be impacted by other factors, such as drink prices and staff interactions. While the music and energy are a draw, it's essential to be aware of the broader context of the club's reputation and potential downsides.
Navigating the Club Scene and Alternatives
While Rakata offers an open bar, some reviews suggest that drinks can be overpriced and that the staff's treatment of patrons can be inconsistent, with some men reporting rude behavior. This has led some visitors to recommend alternative clubs. For instance, the club '24k' is mentioned as a better option with a more affordable entry fee that includes drinks and friendlier staff.
When planning a night out in Cancun, it's wise to research different clubs, read recent reviews, and consider your priorities. If a lively reggaeton atmosphere is key, Rakata might appeal, but be sure to go with a heightened awareness of safety and potential service issues.
