What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Playa Delfines is celebrated for its breathtaking turquoise waters and the iconic 'Cancun' sign, making it a prime spot for photos and enjoying the Caribbean scenery. While visually stunning, visitors often note that the strong currents and waves make it less suitable for swimming, with many recommending alternative beaches for a safer aquatic experience. Despite this, its accessibility and free entry make it a popular and memorable destination.
"Beautiful views of the turquoise sea. Just arrive early if you want parking or be patient to find a spot. There are restrooms and showers, but they have opening hours. Keep in mind that you have to wait in line to take a photo in front of the sign. It's a must-see if you visit Cancún's hotel zone. Visit it even at night, as it offers a completely different view of the area, and it's also enjoyable."

"One of the most beautiful beaches I could visit, recommended for any traveler who wants to see the blue of the Caribbean Sea, the waves are strong but once inside you can enjoy it 100% since it is very beachy even when moving away from the coast.
Keep in mind that the bathrooms close at 5pm (5pm), they also cut off the water flow for the outdoor showers at the same time."
Fede Lezcano
"Great place for amazing views and photos.
The only "problem" is that there is not much parking space, since in the afternoon there are a lot of people (at least in March 2025)"

Navigating Playa Delfines: Your Essential Guide
One of the main draws is the set of large, colorful 'Cancun' letters, a perfect backdrop for memorable vacation photos. Be prepared for crowds, especially around the letters, as it's a highly sought-after photo opportunity. While the visual appeal is undeniable, it's crucial to be aware of the swimming conditions. Many visitors and locals note that Playa Delfines can have strong undertows and significant waves, making it less suitable for casual swimming, especially for those who are not strong swimmers. It's often described as a beach more for admiring the view and taking pictures than for extended swimming.
Despite the swimming advisories, Playa Delfines remains a must-visit for its sheer beauty and iconic status. You can find free palapas (thatched-roof shelters) for shade, and public restrooms are available. While there are no formal restaurants on the beach, local vendors often sell snacks and drinks. Getting there is straightforward, with public buses (R-1 and R-2) making frequent stops, and parking available for those arriving by car. Visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon can help you avoid the peak crowds and enjoy a more serene experience.
Capturing the Magic: Photography at Playa Delfines
Beyond the letters, the beach itself provides endless photographic opportunities. The expansive white sand, the dramatic waves, and the impossibly turquoise water create a breathtaking scene. Consider framing shots that include the vastness of the ocean or the unique textures of the sand. The 'Mirador' section offers elevated viewpoints for panoramic shots of the coastline. Remember that the sun can be intense, so bring protection and stay hydrated. Late afternoon, especially during the golden hour, offers a warm, magical light that can transform your photos.
When planning your photo sessions, be mindful of other visitors. While it's a public space, respecting personal space and being patient can lead to better shots and a more pleasant experience for everyone. If you're looking for unique angles, explore the edges of the beach where you might find interesting rock formations or fewer people. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep your gear secure, especially near the water.
