What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Downtown Cancun accommodations, particularly hostels like Selina, are praised for their excellent location near transport and markets, friendly staff, and affordability. However, a recurring concern is cleanliness, with some guests reporting mold and issues with water pressure. Security and instances of theft are also noted in several reviews, prompting caution.
"We had a great stay here! The outdoor area with the pool is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly. The kitchen is cleverly designed with a mirrored layout, so multiple people can cook and use it at the same time without any problem.
Our room was clean and comfortable – no mold (which we’ve unfortunately experienced in other hostels). We even had a small balcony, plus complimentary shampoo and shower gel. The rooms are cleaned daily, which was a big plus.
The location is perfect: just one minute from the bus station, with lots of restaurants nearby and a lovely market right next door. The price is excellent for what you get.
Overall, we really can’t complain and would absolutely recommend this hostel!"

"Hotel has good location, very close to Ado bus station. The reception work 24 hours, so late arrivals are not a problem.
But this is it for advantages.
Rooms are not very clean, water pressure in shower is a problem, as well as access to warm water.
And, most importantly, we were robbed there for 600 USD. The hotel gives false sense of security - rooms locked on card, guard checking wristbands at entrance. But it's all a smokescreen: hotel stuff knew when we were leaving, and my best bet would be it was them who went through our suitcases, taking cash. They are not taking all, hoping tourist won't notice that only some money are gone or will think they must have lost it somewhere. Since I was not the only one missing money, accidentally losing cash was not the case. I do not recommend this place at all and please feel warned before they will ruin your vacation."

"IVE FOUND SOMEONE SLEEPING IN MY OWN BED, THERE ARE NO NUMBERS!
I’ve stayed in many hostels around the world, but this was by far the worst experience. The room smelled strongly of mold and humidity, it was very hot, and there was no remote for the air conditioner. No one showed us the room or explained which bed was ours — there are no bed numbers, and the lockers have no identification either. On my second night, I found a man sleeping in my bed, on top of my things. I felt unsafe and completely disappointed."
