What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Dream Lagoons Cancun offers spacious apartments and a beautiful lagoon pool, providing a quieter alternative to the main hotel zone. While some guests praise the helpful staff and secure environment, others point to issues with furniture wear, maintenance, and noise from ongoing development. The location requires planning for transportation to tourist attractions.
"The apartment was spacious and the lagoon was just amazing. It is away from the hotel zone in downtown but near shops and restaurants. If you don’t mind being away from the hotel area, then this is a great choice. The service I received from the owner of the apartment, Eric was amazing and above and beyond. He went out of his way to get us a ride since our shuttle left due to the staffing shortage in the airport. That was a mess but the service and response from him was just fantastic! Thank you for the hospitality! Be aware there is construction as the place continues to be developed but that didn’t bother us."

"This apartment lies in a secure area with a lots if other apartments.
It has a very big lagoon pool and the apartment we got was very spacious, but that's also the two nice things I can say.
The furniture in the apartment was warn down and everything felt cheap.
The terrace door couldn't be opened and the toilets couldn't flush probably.
It was also dirty on arrival, so not a good experience and I'm glad we only booked it for one day.
There are 15-20 minutes walk to the nearest restaurants, so the location is not great.
I think the apartments are privat owned, so you had to make arrangements with the owner and it was also a little confusing.
I can't tell if it's the same experience with the other apartments."

"My wife and I stayed here for two months and it was not great. This is not a good location for a vacation rental because it’s not close to the hotel zone, shopping, or any other tourist attractions. If you are considering purchasing one of these apartments then you should rent one of the many vacant apartments for a few months before making a decision. These apartments are very noisy because there is almost always someone playing loud music by the pool or the groundskeepers are running leaf-blowers, or weed-whackers. Nothing absorbs sound, the noise echoes back and forth between the concrete buildings. The biggest problem is that there is no lifeguard at the pool. We personally witnessed two near-death drownings, both required CPR resuscitation. I assume this is a fairly regular occurrence. The pool may look nice in pictures, but it is no fun watching someone drown from a 4th floor apartment.
On the plus side, the guards, groundskeepers, and administrative staff are very helpful, and friendly. On several occasions the building administrator, Carlos, went well out of his way to help us. Thank you Carlos."

Navigating Cancun from Dream Lagoons
Public transport is an option, but it involves a walk to a point where taxis are more readily available. The drive to the popular Hotel Zone, known for its beaches, resorts, and nightlife, typically takes around 15-20 minutes. This distance provides a peaceful escape from the constant buzz of the tourist strip, but it means factoring in travel time for day trips or evening excursions. Consider this trade-off between serenity and immediate access when planning your itinerary.
Understanding the Residential Aspect
This residential nature also means that noise levels can vary. Reviews mention that the concrete construction can amplify sounds, leading to noise from music, leaf blowers, or general apartment living. Some visitors have also noted that furniture and fixtures might show signs of wear, as maintenance is dependent on the individual owner. For potential buyers, the advice is to rent an apartment for a few months first to truly gauge the living experience before making a purchase.
Safety and Pool Etiquette
The complex itself is a gated community with friendly security staff, contributing to a sense of safety within the grounds. However, the lack of a lifeguard at the pool means that personal responsibility for water safety is paramount. When enjoying the lagoon, always be aware of your surroundings and swim within your limits.
