What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Cancun's dive sites for their vibrant marine life, unique attractions like MUSA and shipwrecks, and the incredible beauty of the cenotes. Dive operators are frequently commended for their professionalism, knowledgeable guides, and commitment to safety, with many reviewers highlighting personalized service and small group experiences. "My son and I did 4 dives with Scuba Total, two in the Chikin-Ha cenotes, 1 wreck dive and the horseshoe reef just off the coast of Cancun. We had a fantastic experience. Scuba Total had nice equipment, and the dive masters were very organized, thoughtful and friendly. Aldo, Gaby, Rafa and Lorenzo were some of the best guides we have dived with. Very knowledgeable, safe and helpful. Also, they don't pack you on a boat with a lot of people so the groups are much smaller which for me makes a huge difference. Lastly, Gaby was excellent at communicating with us prior to our dives so we were fully prepared. I have used other providers in Cancún in the past but these guys are the best."

"Fantastic and friendly dive company. We were divers and a first time snorkeler. They were well organized, and had everything ready to go and get out in the water diving. Our first time snorkeler, nervous, but they did a great job making sure she felt safe and she enjoyed it. MUSA and another reef was healthy with tons of fish and fun diving spots. And a bonus to be able to walk to the dive shop from my hotel in the Hotel zone."

"My wife and I completed our open water diving course with Scuba Total to celebrate her milestone birthday, and it exceeded all our expectations! Our instructor, Fabio, was absolutely exceptional - kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient. He took the time to explain each skill thoroughly and made us feel completely comfortable both in the pool and during our ocean dives. We enjoyed it so much that we booked another dive with him just two days later!
The entire team at Scuba Total was wonderful. Gaby was fantastic throughout the booking process - always friendly and quick to respond to our questions. When we arrived for our training, Aldo greeted us with such warmth that we felt like old friends from day one.
From start to finish, this was a perfect experience. We couldn’t have asked for better instruction, service, or hospitality. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to Cancun so we can dive with Scuba Total again. Highly recommend to anyone considering diving in Cancun!"

When choosing an operator, look for those that emphasize family-friendly experiences and have a good reputation for handling beginners and children. Smaller group sizes can also be beneficial, ensuring your child receives adequate attention. Packing plenty of reef-safe sunscreen, hats, and water is essential for a comfortable day out on the water.

Exploring Cancun's Underwater Museum (MUSA)
This underwater museum is accessible to both divers and snorkelers. For divers, it offers a chance to explore the sculptures at depth, encountering the marine life that has made them their home. Snorkelers can enjoy the shallower sections, getting a good view of the art from above. The MUSA is a testament to the intersection of art, conservation, and tourism, providing a thought-provoking and visually stunning encounter with the underwater world.
When planning your visit to MUSA, consider booking a tour that combines it with other nearby dive sites or a trip to Isla Mujeres. Many tours depart from Cancun's hotel zone, making it a convenient option for a half-day adventure. Remember to use reef-safe sunscreen to protect the delicate marine ecosystem that is vital to the museum's continued growth.
The Thrill of Cancun Shipwreck Diving
One of the most popular Cancun wreck dives is the C-56, a former naval minesweeper that now rests on the seabed. Divers can explore its decks, corridors, and various compartments, encountering schools of fish, moray eels, and other reef inhabitants. The visibility at these sites can be excellent, allowing for clear views of the wreck and its inhabitants.
When choosing a shipwreck dive, it's important to go with a reputable dive operator that has experience with these types of dives. They will ensure proper safety protocols are followed and guide you through the wreck, pointing out interesting features and marine life. Wreck diving is generally recommended for certified divers with some experience, as it can involve deeper depths and overhead environments.
Discovering the Magic of Cenote Diving
Popular cenote dive sites near Cancun include Chikin-Ha, Dos Ojos, and Sac Actun. Each offers its own distinct beauty and characteristics. Cenote diving is suitable for certified divers, and many operators offer specialized cavern diving courses for those interested in exploring these subterranean wonders further.
When diving in cenotes, it's crucial to dive with experienced guides who know the systems well. They will ensure your safety and help you appreciate the unique environment. The water in cenotes is typically very clear, but it's important to maintain neutral buoyancy to avoid disturbing the sediment.
