What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Solmar Beach offers stunning Pacific views and dramatic sunsets, with the Mt. Solmar hike being a highlight. While the beach itself is unsafe for swimming, the nearby Solmar Resort provides a pleasant pool experience and day passes. Service and food at Solmar Resort can be inconsistent, and it's important to distinguish it from the more luxurious Grand Solmar next door.
"Let me preface this by saying: most of the 5 stars reviews you see online are actually about Grand Solmar, the 5 star hotel next door — not Solmar Resort, which is a completely different property and a 4 star hotel. The difference is night and day.
Staff
With the exception of two employees working at the pool during the day, the staff were absolutely incompetent and rude. The pool bar staff spent most of their time chatting with each other, and only when you placed an order (for example, a glass of champagne) would they slowly start to prepare it — often taking up to 30 minutes and requiring you to remind them multiple times. The front desk staff were also unfriendly and seemed to have little knowledge of their own work.
Food
The food was just “okay” — you won’t go hungry, but don’t expect anything particularly tasty or memorable. Oh, and you can always count on a random vegetable in your pasta. Zucchini? Sure. Bell pepper? Why not. A lonely broccoli floret wondering how it got there? Absolutely. It’s like a little surprise game at every meal.
Misleading website information
The photos on the official website are taken from the nearby 5 star hotel located on the same grounds, which is a completely different standard. Many of the listed amenities are not where you’d expect them to be. For example, the gym is actually in another building about 20 minutes away by shuttle, which stops running in the evening. There is no access to the gym or evening activities of the 5 star hotel — and the staff make this very clear in a rather rude manner.
Entertainment & atmosphere
All evening entertainment happens at the 5 star hotel next door. The 4 star section has no evening program at all. Even while walking on the beach, staff repeatedly and aggressively asked which hotel and room you were from.
Overall
For the price, it might not be the worst option, but don’t expect much. The service will likely spoil the overall experience — apart from two employees, the staff were rude and unprofessional."

"During a cruise stop in Cabo, we discovered Solmar Resort’s all-inclusive day pass, and it was the best decision we made! The price was very reasonable, and getting there was quick and convenient. The resort even arranged transportation back to the port, which made the whole experience stress-free.
From the moment we arrived, William at the front desk gave us such a warm welcome. He was professional, pleasant, and took the time to explain everything that was included in our pass—even the WiFi. His hospitality set the tone for a wonderful visit.
The resort itself is beautiful and spacious, with three pools to choose from. We spent most of our time at one with a swim-up bar, where Alias (our bartender) was so attentive and friendly. He kept the drinks flowing and made sure we were taken care of the entire time.
I was so impressed by how easy and enjoyable the whole day was. Between the service, the amenities, and the relaxing atmosphere, Solmar Resort exceeded expectations. I would definitely return here for a longer Cabo trip!"

"We stayed at Solmar Resort in Cabo San Lucas from June 30 to July 3 and had a great experience overall. The location is quiet and scenic, with ocean views and easy access to town. The staff was friendly, our room was clean and comfortable, even though the decor is a bit outdated. The pool area was a great spot to unwind. For the price, the room offered excellent value, especially given the location and amenities. While you can’t swim at the beach due to strong currents, the resort made up for it with a peaceful atmosphere and solid service. We'd happily stay here again for a relaxing Cabo getaway."

Understanding Solmar Beach Safety
Travelers are strongly advised to never enter the water if any flags are displayed. Instead of swimming, visitors can enjoy the beach by walking along the shore, sunbathing, and taking in the dramatic scenery. The nearby resorts, Solmar Resort and Grand Solmar, offer safe swimming alternatives in their pools.
It's crucial to be aware that many online reviews and photos might be conflated with the adjacent Grand Solmar, a 5-star property. Solmar Resort, while still offering a pleasant experience, is a 4-star hotel with different amenities and service levels. Understanding these distinctions can help manage expectations for your visit.
Exploring Beyond the Shoreline
For those seeking relaxation and water activities, the Solmar Resort offers excellent pool facilities. This includes a popular swim-up bar, providing a refreshing way to cool off and enjoy a drink without the risks associated with the ocean. Day passes are available for non-guests, allowing access to these amenities.
Additionally, the beach's location on the west side of Land's End makes it a prime spot for whale watching during the migration season (typically December to April). The dramatic sunsets here are also a major draw, offering spectacular backdrops for photography and romantic moments.
Navigating Resort Options and Expectations
Grand Solmar is a 5-star luxury resort located next door, and many positive reviews and photos online actually refer to this property. Visitors staying at Solmar Resort do not automatically have access to Grand Solmar's amenities, including its dining and entertainment. This distinction is crucial for managing expectations regarding the level of luxury and service.
For day visitors, Solmar Resort offers an all-inclusive day pass, which is a popular option for cruise ship passengers or those looking for a convenient way to enjoy the resort's pools, dining, and beach access without staying overnight. This pass provides good value and a stress-free experience.
