What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Capilla de la Paz for its breathtaking panoramic views of Acapulco Bay and its serene, peaceful atmosphere. The iconic towering cross and the symbolic praying hands sculpture are highlights, offering a spiritual and visually striking experience. While entry is free, some note the challenging uphill walk and the need to pass through a private neighborhood's security.
"La Capilla de la Paz is truly one of Acapulco’s hidden gems. Perched high on the hilltop of Las Brisas, the chapel offers an awe-inspiring panoramic view of the bay and surrounding mountains. The moment you arrive, there’s a profound sense of calm.
The architecture is striking — modern yet spiritual — with a massive white cross that stands over 40 meters tall, visible from much of the city. The bronze sculpture of praying hands near the entrance is powerful and symbolic. Inside, the open-air chapel is simple but deeply moving, filled with natural light and surrounded by beautiful landscaping.
We were greeted by the serene sound of birds and the rustling of palm trees, and even though it was a warm afternoon, the cool mountain breeze made it perfect. It’s not just a religious site — it’s a peaceful place to reflect, take in the view, and feel connected to something bigger.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Acapulco, whether you’re spiritual or simply looking for tranquility and beauty."

"What a cool, peaceful place in the mountain. The view of the sea and the bay are wonderful. Free to enter, but you can leave a donation.
Note, this is in a secure, private neighborhood; so you need to go through security. Only open until 6pm. The parking area is on the street. You will need to walk up a steep hill about 80 meters in length to get to the chapel grounds."

"Very high on a mountain, we passed several of what can only be termed mansions or luxury homes on our long coach ride up. Our guide suggested several Hollywood stars owned some of the houses, all of them with infinity pools hanging off the cliffside. At the top stands a quite modern chapel (possibly ultramodern in design) and several monuments, one for the Las Manos de la Hermandad (Builders). Tombs are present for prominent / wealthy families. Views from all sides are spectacular. In more rural areas, there is more honor to a family to be buried higher on a hill, and there is no higher hill than this in Acapulco. One one side I could see down along the entire bay of Acapulco and its waterfront."

Consider it a brief, scenic detour rather than a primary family destination. The iconic cross and the vastness of the bay can be impressive, but the focus is on quiet appreciation. Pack water, especially on warmer days, as there are no facilities on-site.
🚶 Solo Travelers & Couples

The Iconic Architecture and Symbolism
Beyond the main cross, the chapel grounds feature other monuments and, notably, tombs of prominent and wealthy families of Acapulco. This aspect highlights the chapel's dual role as a place of worship and a final resting place for some of the city's elite, reflecting a tradition of honoring family in elevated locations. The overall design emphasizes tranquility and offers a space for contemplation, making it more than just a religious site but a place of peace and reflection amidst stunning natural beauty.
Experiencing the Breathtaking Views
Many visitors describe the views as awe-inspiring and spectacular, perfect for photography and quiet contemplation. The best time to experience these views is often cited as late afternoon, during the 'golden hour,' when the sunlight casts a warm glow over the bay, enhancing the already stunning scenery. The cool mountain breeze, even on a warm day, adds to the pleasant experience of taking in the scenery.
Navigating Access and Terrain
However, it's crucial to be prepared for a steep uphill walk of approximately 80 meters from the parking area to the chapel grounds. This terrain can be challenging for some visitors, particularly those with mobility issues. Wearing comfortable, sturdy shoes is highly recommended. While the effort is rewarded with incredible views, the physical aspect of the access is a key consideration for planning a visit.
