What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Jardin de Balata as a stunningly beautiful botanical garden, often described as a slice of paradise with its vibrant flora and unique canopy walkway. The opportunity to see hummingbirds up close is a major draw. Some find the 1-1.5 hour visit a bit short for the price, but most agree it's a worthwhile experience, especially for nature lovers and photographers.
"It is an amazing garden. Entering the garden, it seems like you are in paradise. The flowers delight your eyes with their colors. The fish charm you with their undulating movement. For thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies, there are suspension bridges where you can see far into the distance, the Caribbean Sea framed by towering palm trees. Huge bamboo trees line the paths in the garden. You will hear a lot of bird calls (if the chatty tourists keep quiet, which is unlikely). When leaving the garden, you could see the hummingbird. They drink the syrup specially prepared by the caretakers. It is recommended to visit it. The price is 16 euros but you can leave 1-2 euros extra for the garden."
Cirt Carmen Dorina
"Very nice garden. Short to visit however. Count 1h if you take your time. 13 Euros per person. Value for the price is debatable, but depends on each individual taste I suppose. Cool activity to fill a gap of 2-3h (when counting the time to get there if you are in the southern part of the island and coming back). It's roughly a 20-30 min drive from downtown Fort de France, and +-1h from Trois Ilets. Would not judge this as a must do in Martinique. It's a nice, time killer if you need one."
Jean-Sebastien Vanbrugghe
"The Jardin de Balata is a truly stunning botanical garden, beautifully designed and wonderfully located in the lush hills of Martinique. The variety of tropical plants and flowers is impressive, and every path offers a new scenic view to enjoy. For hummingbird enthusiasts, this garden is a true paradise — there are excellent opportunities to observe and photograph these magnificent birds up close. A visit to this tranquil and well-maintained garden is highly recommended for nature lovers and photographers alike."
