What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travelers rave about the stunning beauty of the Blue Lagoon and the adventurous speedboat tours through sea caves. The friendly staff and well-organized trips make for a memorable day. Some found Gozo's Victoria less engaging than expected, preferring more time at the lagoon.
"It was a very nice boat trip, the staff were friendly and respectful. The boat left on time and during the trip, the captain explained the places we were cruising. The Blue Lagoon is simply gorgeous and the visit to the Gozo island is also interesting, doesn’t have a lot to do in Victoria but if you have time it is nice to visit. Otherwise, make the most out of the Blue Lagoon as you can spend the whole day there. Would definitely recommend it! The boat goes very close to the sea caves as well. Beautiful landscapes!"

"My daughters and I had an absolutely incredible day with Hornblower Cruises in St. Paul’s Bay. From start to finish, everything was well-organized and smoothly run, which made the whole experience feel safe, relaxed, and full of fun. Our main skipper ran a tight ship, firm but fun, and it showed. The atmosphere on board was upbeat, and everything moved along seamlessly. Jumping off the boat into the crystal-clear Mediterranean was a dream come true. It’s the kind of moment you hope for on vacation, and we got it!
The speedboat took us around to the stunning Comino Island, with an optional speedboat ride through the surrounding sea caves, an absolute must-do! That ride was one of the major highlights of the day. The captain was knowledgeable, full of energy, and clearly loved what he was doing. He handled the boat like a total pro and made the whole experience feel adventurous yet completely safe. Also, bonus points for saving me (sort of)! I was a bit clumsy getting onto the boat and slipped (should’ve worn shoes) but he caught me like a hero. We all had a laugh, and it honestly just added to the memory.
This was more than just a boat tour it became a core memory with my girls. I’d recommend Hornblower Cruises to anyone visiting Malta. You won’t regret it!"

"I had a fantastic time on this cruise with my two friends. We opted for just the blue lagoon, Comino island and to see crystal lagoon. It was so BEAUTIFUL. It was a bucket list of mine and it’s so worth it. It lasted 7 hours (10am till 5pm). They have food and drinks on the boat. There’s lots of seating. We all went down the slide which was so much fun. They offer life jackets for those who aren’t confident swimmers. I really recommend choosing the Hornblower Cruises—the staff were 10/10, so accommodating!"

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Look for tours that provide life jackets for added safety. While the speedboat cave tour might be too intense for very young children, the main boat journey and the Blue Lagoon itself offer plenty of enjoyment. Consider tours that offer a good amount of time at the Blue Lagoon so kids can get their fill of swimming and playing.
💰 Budget Travelers
To save money on board, consider bringing your own snacks and water. While the pineapple cocktails are a treat, purchasing all your food and drinks can add up. Opting for a tour that focuses primarily on the Blue Lagoon and Comino, rather than including extensive excursions, can also be more budget-friendly.
📸 Photography Enthusiasts
Bring a waterproof camera or phone case to safely capture the vibrant blues of the Blue Lagoon and any underwater moments. The upper decks of the boats also provide excellent vantage points for sweeping landscape shots.

Navigating the Blue Lagoon Experience
While the Blue Lagoon itself is the main attraction, the surrounding coastline offers its own magic. Some tours include an optional speedboat excursion that weaves through the dramatic sea caves. This is frequently cited as a highlight, offering thrilling rides and unique photographic opportunities. The captains are often skilled at navigating these narrow passages, providing an adventurous yet safe experience.
For those who wish to explore beyond the water, some tours offer the chance to step onto Comino Island itself. Be sure to check if this requires a specific wristband or sign-up. While Comino is small, it offers a different perspective and a chance to stretch your legs away from the boat.
Choosing Your Boat Tour Operator
When selecting a tour, consider what's most important to you. Some tours focus solely on the Blue Lagoon and Comino, offering extended time in the water and onboard activities like a slide. Others include a visit to Gozo Island, allowing a brief exploration of its capital, Victoria. This choice depends on whether you prefer a pure beach and swim experience or a more varied itinerary.
Many travelers find booking through platforms like GetYourGuide offers good value, with prices often around £25-£35. This also ensures you have a confirmed spot. Always check what's included in the price, such as optional excursions, food, and drinks, to make an informed decision.
Onboard Amenities and Activities
For entertainment, many boats have onboard music systems, creating a lively atmosphere. A popular feature mentioned is the boat slide, allowing for a fun entry into the sea. Life jackets are typically provided for those who are less confident swimmers, ensuring everyone can enjoy the water safely.
Food and drinks are available for purchase on most vessels. The 'pineapple cocktails' are a recurring favorite, offering a festive touch to the experience. While prices are generally reasonable, especially for refills, it's wise to budget for these extras if you plan to indulge.
