What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviewers consistently praise the exceptional service, delicious food, and professional dive operations in Malé Atoll. Many highlight the kindness of the staff and the well-maintained vessels. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some guests noted that the final day on a liveaboard could be better utilized with activities rather than waiting in port.
"The Dune Black Manta team provides an unforgettable, totally relaxing environment and the most stunning dive sites, choosing the right times to avoid the crowds. An amazing week! Thank you!"

"I had an amazing experience in the central Maldives with Dune, and I wanted to leave a review to share it.
All of the Dune staff were incredibly kind and always tried their best to accommodate the guests. As a Korean diver, I really appreciated that all explanations were provided in both English and French, which made communication smooth and stress-free.
The rooms were always clean, and the crew on the dhoni were very professional. Meals were prepared with great care by the chef, and they were so delicious that I ended up gaining a bit of weight — totally worth it!😂
I was offered free nitrox throughout the trip, and thanks to the cool, comfortable cabins and well-planned schedules, I enjoyed every dive to the fullest. The team adjusted the timing of dives at crowded sites so we could dive in peace with great visibility.
Special thanks to Laurie, Antoine, and Lamont for their kindness, and especially to Raai, who guided our team wonderfully and made it possible for us to see large groups of manta rays and sharks.
I highly recommend this team and boat to anyone considering a liveaboard experience in the Maldives."

"Very varied and delicious food, and a friendly crew on board. The yacht is very clean and feels new. What could be improved is better planning for the final day on the yacht — we spent almost a full day moored in Malé port with no activities; for example, they could have offered snorkeling or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
Our dive guide, Yaanu, delivered detailed briefings, managed the situation smoothly, and handled every question. We felt safe and confident underwater, and it was great to talk with him afterwards and swap impressions. We’re thrilled we took this trip with Yaanu!"

Navigating Malé Atoll's Dive Sites
For those seeking larger pelagics, sites like Shark Tank are aptly named, offering reliable sightings of various shark species. The Dune Black Manta team specifically mentions adjusting dive times to ensure guests can witness manta rays and sharks in peace, highlighting the importance of operator expertise in managing crowds and maximizing sightings. The presence of spinner dolphins is also a common sight when traveling between dive locations, adding another layer of excitement to the Maldivian diving experience.
Liveaboard vs. Resort Diving
Resort-based diving offers a more relaxed vacation with a balance of diving and other activities like snorkeling, spa treatments, and beach relaxation. While you can access excellent dive sites from resorts, you might be limited to sites closer to the resort or have less flexibility in dive timing compared to a liveaboard. Some resorts, like those in the North Malé Atoll, offer access to famous sites like Nassimo Thila and Furana Thila. The choice often comes down to whether your primary focus is maximizing dive time and exploring a wider range of sites (liveaboard) or enjoying a more varied holiday with diving as a key component (resort).
Encountering Sharks and Mantas Responsibly
Dive operators play a vital role in ensuring responsible encounters. Guides like Yaanu are praised for their detailed briefings and smooth management of situations, making divers feel safe and confident while respecting the marine life. Simone, a dive master, is highlighted as a 'shark whisperer and protector,' demonstrating the dedication of guides to both guest safety and animal welfare. By choosing reputable operators and following their guidance, you can have unforgettable encounters while contributing to the conservation of these incredible creatures.
