What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hikers praise the peaceful jungle atmosphere and the rewarding views from Gunung Jasar's peak. The option to extend the hike to the tea plantations is a major draw, offering stunning scenery. However, be prepared for steep, slippery, and sometimes poorly maintained trails, especially after rain, and the need for reliable navigation.
"Easy trail to follow, it takes about 1 hour to reach the peak on trail 10 - a steep climb though. I enjoyed the walk through the forest, it was very peaceful with only a few other people on the trail.
You can merge with trail 6 at the top, choose the right path which will say ‘wrong way’ and this will lead you all the way to the tea valleys. This is a downhill track which is very slippery in parts, be prepared to get a mud on you! I really recommend doing this route though as the views are much prettier. This will take about 2 hours extra.
Note that trail 10 is an out and back, but if merged with 6 it can be a loop which leads you back to town. You can choose to hitch hike the last 5 km along the main road back to town after the plantation!"

"We did point to point trail 10 and 6 to the tea plantation.
It’s pretty challenging and the path is not well maintained, but it’s a pretty nice hike with some good views. Just make sure you’re prepared to suffer a bit.
- up the mountain is pretty steep, you have some parts where you really need to crawl up and I can only imagine it’s really slippery after rainfall.
- there is 2 ways to go from trail 10 to the tea plantation:
*the first one is before the summit and the big electricity pylon. Ignore the ‘wrong way sign’ and crawl your way to thick bush for 30 min. Afterwards you’ll arrive at a shack and there the roads start. You will also pass a village with really friendly people before the tea fields.
* the second one is the ridge trail at the summit. When you reach the summit go left. You will see signs saying “this is not trail 10 or trail 6”. We didn’t take this path ourselves but we saw other people going through here and we saw them again in the valley. So apparently they survived but I can’t say anything about the state of the trail.
- make sure you download maps.me of AllTrails to see the paths, there is barely any markings.
- we crossed 6-7 other groups in the morning, so normally there will be some other people to help you out.
Have fun, but be prepared!!!"

"A bit of a steep climb in places but anyone who is healthy can do this hike. I just did trail 10 to the peak and back, nice views and the jungle was very serene. The trail is very easy to follow as it’s well trodden and we passed a few other hikers on the way. A bit muddy in places. Use Maps.me to find the start"

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider the duration; the peak is about an hour up and back. The extension to the tea fields is significantly longer and more demanding. For a more relaxed family experience in the Cameron Highlands, exploring the tea plantations directly or visiting the butterfly gardens might be more suitable alternatives.
💰 Budget Travelers
The main costs will be transportation to the trailhead and any food or water you bring. Since there are no facilities on the trail, packing your own supplies is essential and cost-effective. Consider sharing a taxi with other travelers to split costs if public transport isn't convenient.

Navigating Trail 10/10A: Maps and Markings
Some sections of the trail, particularly when merging with Trail 6 towards the tea plantations, are described as less maintained and can be overgrown. One reviewer even humorously suggested bringing a machete, highlighting the wilder nature of certain parts. Be prepared for a more adventurous trek where navigation skills are key.
The Challenging Ascent and Slippery Descent
When opting to continue to the tea fields via Trail 6, the descent can be equally challenging. Hikers warn of slippery rocks in cascades and steep slopes. This section is particularly dangerous after rain, and caution is advised. The reward for this effort, however, is the stunning scenery of the tea plantations, which many find well worth the 'suffering.'
Connecting Trails: The Loop to the Tea Valleys
This route eventually leads to a shack and then to established paths that guide you towards the tea fields. Along the way, you might pass a village with friendly locals. Alternatively, at the summit, you can take the ridge trail to the left, which also leads to the valley, though its condition is less documented. This loop offers a more varied and scenic experience than just hiking Trail 10 and back.
