What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Reviews for accommodations near Sipadan often highlight issues with water pressure, cleanliness, and basic amenities. While some guests find the rooms spacious and clean for a short stay, others report significant problems like bed bugs and inconsistent service. The proximity to the jetty is a plus for divers, but the overall guest experience can be mixed.
"While the hotel enjoys a strategic and convenient location, my stay was unfortunately marred by a serious issue—bed bugs in the room. I experienced multiple bites during the night, which led to discomfort and poor sleep throughout my stay. Cleanliness and hygiene are fundamental to any accommodation, and this situation was highly disappointing.
I hope the management will take immediate steps to address this matter and improve pest control measures to ensure better experiences for future guests."

"Worst hotel ever!
No water pressure for 2 days! I had to take a bath by using the water at the sink!!
And on my checkout day, i went to receptionist to ask for sugar, JUST A SMALL PACK OF SUGAR! But the receptionist said that i supposedly can’t have a sugar on my pllcheckout day. What??! It’s still not 12pm yet and i still paid for their service. I really hope the management do something about this"
Nurul Anis
"Very decent stay for the 4 of us. Paid about 65RM for a night’s stay.
Rooms are spacious and clean. Toilet floors were dry and clean too. Basic toiletries like hand soap, shampoo and body soap provided. No toothbrush and toothpaste provided.
Shower was good. Beds are comfortable."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
For families with older children interested in marine life, snorkeling around the house reefs of Mabul or Kapalai can be a fantastic alternative to diving Sipadan. These areas still boast abundant fish life and are more accessible for non-divers. Always ensure that any water activities are supervised and suitable for the age and swimming ability of your children.
💰 Budget Travelers
Be aware that securing a Sipadan permit independently can be challenging and costly. It's often more economical to book a package that includes the permit, accommodation, and transfers. Researching different dive operators and comparing prices is key. Traveling during the shoulder seasons might also offer slightly lower prices.
💑 Couples
Consider booking a package that includes a mix of diving and relaxation. Some resorts offer couples' massages or private dining experiences. The shared adventure of exploring one of the world's best dive sites creates unforgettable memories for any couple.

The Majesty of the Drop Off
The sheer verticality of the Drop Off means that pelagic species are frequently encountered. Expect to see reef sharks patrolling the depths, large schools of barracudas forming mesmerizing vortexes, and powerful jacks moving in tight formations. The abundance of life here is staggering, making every dive an adventure. The proximity to the deep sea also means that larger marine animals are drawn to the nutrient-rich waters.
Beyond the large pelagics, the Drop Off is also home to a vibrant reef ecosystem. Green sea turtles are a common sight, often seen gliding gracefully along the wall or resting in crevices. You'll also encounter numerous species of reef fish, moray eels, and if you're lucky, even manta rays or whale sharks. The sheer density of marine life makes it a photographer's paradise and a diver's dream.
Navigating Sipadan's Dive Permits
Most divers arrange their Sipadan permits through dive resorts and operators based in Semporna or on nearby islands like Mabul. When booking a dive package, always clarify whether the Sipadan permit is included. Some packages might offer a certain number of days at Sipadan, while others might require an additional fee or a separate application process. It's advisable to book your trip at least 6 months to a year in advance, especially if you plan to visit during peak seasons.
Failure to secure a permit means you won't be able to dive or even land on Sipadan Island. Dive boats will be turned away if they don't have the correct permits for their passengers. Therefore, confirming your permit status with your operator is a non-negotiable step in planning your Sipadan diving adventure.
Encountering the Bumphead Parrotfish
At Sipadan, large schools of these magnificent fish can often be seen grazing on the reef. Divers report seeing them in groups of 5 to 10, or even more, moving slowly and methodically across the coral. Their feeding activity plays a significant role in the reef's ecosystem, helping to control algae growth and contributing to the production of sand.
Observing the bumphead parrotfish at Sipadan is a special experience. They are generally unafraid of divers, allowing for close-up views and excellent photographic opportunities. Their sheer size and the synchronized way they move through the water create a memorable underwater scene, adding another layer of wonder to the already rich marine life of Sipadan.
