Visitors praise Kinabalu Park Botanical Garden for its refreshing cool air, diverse endemic flora, and peaceful atmosphere, making it ideal for nature lovers and those seeking a tranquil escape. While some found the wildlife sightings limited and wished for more blooming orchids or Rafflesia, the well-maintained trails and educational opportunities with local guides are consistently highlighted as positives. It's considered a worthwhile stop for appreciating Borneo's unique plant life.
"I visited the botanical garden in Kinabalu Park. The air was very clear in the morning, and the temperature was around 25 degrees, which was cool and didn't make me tired even while walking. In this botanical garden, you can observe many endemic and wild plants of Borneo, such as orchids, ferns, mosses, and carnivorous plants. It is a must-visit spot for plant lovers! There are quite a few insects, so if you're not fond of them, please take insect repellent measures. We enjoyed the botanical garden with explanations about the plants from a local guide. If you are staying at a hotel near Kinabalu Park and can visit this park early in the morning, you can enjoy birdwatching. Please give it a try."

"People will see different value in the botanical gardens depending on their level of interest in plants and whether or not they have a guide to explain things to them or not.
This was an additional fee to the national park entry however from memory this was a very low fee.
I came here by myself unguided and to me, the main appeal was just the photography. I got lucky in that there was a low hanging mist and fog through the gardens which made for some cool photos.
However I think you would get more value from this if you did it with a guide who could point out the different types of plants to you.
