What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the magical rainbow phenomenon and the thrilling 4WD adventure to reach Rainbow Waterfall. The hike, though challenging, is rewarded with a refreshing dip in the waterfall's pool. While the experience is highly satisfying, clearer pre-tour briefings and better signage on the trail would enhance the visit.
"We booked the tour with the host from Sky Rock Villa. Simple and easy for the reservation. Just pay upon check-in.
The next day morning, the truck came to pick-up us at 5am. Stop at the town for breakfast. Then follow by the sunrise. It was a bit cloudy so not so stunning.
Follow by 45mims journey, we have reached a river and there is a toilet and you can rent the rubber shoes there. They do drinking water too.
Crossed the river then follow by the hiking trail in the forest. Then you will reach the rainbow water fall after 45mins. The last part is the most danger. Some part has no string to hold u up or down. It is very slippery.
You will see the rainbow when the sun is out. The driver will prepare cup noodle and hot drink while you enjoying to take photo. You can swim there too:
Overall it is quite satisfied.
it will be better to brief clearly 1 day before the tour. Let us prepare in advance."

"We were ready to explore the famous Rainbow Waterfall right after we reached the Sunrise Hill. Everybody was already used to the rough riding of the 4x4 vehicles, and even the small kids were enjoying the rides.
We reached the final port where all the 4x4 vehicles had to be stationed, and everything had to be on foot from there onwards. There was a toilet for both men and women at the pitstop, so it was a good time to ease yourself before the ascend. We also had our breakfast of Nasi Goreng here, and that was supposed to fuel up our energy for the tough climb.
We had to start by crossing a small stream, and the water was not deep, but the current was quite strong. Fortunately, there was a tight rope across the stream for us to hold on to, and that had helped us a lot. From then, it was another 1.2 km of rough trails and rocks to overcome, which took us about an hour to complete. Again, the ropes were there at the tough and challenging places, which most of us utilized to our advantages. Without the ropes, the whole climb would have set us back another 30 minutes, easily.
Upon reaching the final destination of our ascend, we were met with a huge vertical rockface, with trickles of water coming down from it. As time went on, the volumes of water became more apparent, and the body of water underneath became deeper. The water in the natural pool was so cooling and refreshing, so obviously after the sweating uphill excercise I immediately jumped in. The korean students couldnt help themselves either, hence the screams of excitements colud be heard throughout the waterfall...
The sun had to be positioned at a certain height and location for the sunrays to reflect the rainbow image across the wide rockface. But we were not so lucky this time, as the volume of water and the positioning of the sun were not exactly in our favors. Yet, it was still plenty of fun for our group, as this was basically the first time for everyone...
After we had enough fun and frolicks at the waterfall, it was time to leave. We were careful to bring back all our own rubbishs and trashes, to ensure this precious natural attraction was not littered indescriminately. Descending down the hill appeared to be more difficult actually, as the tracks had became wet and slippery. Hence, we had to be more careful and cautious, as it took us longer to reach the pitstop at the bottom of the hill. After that, we had another round of thrilling rides on the 4x4 vehicles, until we reached another small stream where we had our lunch while sitting at the sides of the stream.
Finally, we were ready to bid farewell to the historic Sungai Lembing town, carrying with us all those beautiful memories created from this extraordinary experience..."

"Lembing’s Rainbow Waterfall isn’t the kind of place you just stumble upon—it’s the kind of spot you earn. The day usually starts before sunrise, when you climb into a 4WD and rumble your way through Sungai Lembing’s old tin mining tracks. The ride itself feels like an off-road theme park—bumpy, splashing through shallow rivers, winding through thick rainforest. By the time you reach the trailhead, you’re already feeling like an explorer.
The trek to the waterfall is short, but it’s got just enough challenge to make you break a sweat—muddy patches, uneven paths, and that earthy jungle scent hanging in the air. And then… you hear it before you see it. The rush of water gets louder, the air turns cooler, and suddenly, there it is—Rainbow Waterfall in all its glory.
But here’s the thing—the real show starts when the sun peeks over the cliffs. As the light hits the spray from the falls, a rainbow appears right in front of you, like nature’s own VIP performance. It’s pure magic. You’re standing there with cold mist on your face, the sound of the water roaring in your ears, and this surreal arc of colors dancing just meters away.
The pool at the base? Absolutely freezing—but in the best way. Some people just dip their feet, others go all in for that “I survived the icy waterfall” bragging rights. The moment is so fresh and untouched, you almost don’t want to leave… except maybe for the thought of a hot bowl of noodles back in town.
Rainbow Waterfall isn’t just a “place to visit”—it’s an adventure, a memory, and a little reminder of how beautiful Malaysia’s wild side can be when you wake up early enough to chase it."

Chasing the Rainbow: Timing and Conditions
While the period from November to February is often cited as the best time due to the rainy season, which provides ample water flow, rainbows have been spotted even at the end of May. The key is a combination of sufficient water spray and direct sunlight. Cloudy conditions can obscure the rainbow, so clear skies during the morning hours are ideal.
Many visitors emphasize that seeing the rainbow is a highlight that makes the entire journey worthwhile. The anticipation and the eventual appearance of the colors against the backdrop of the waterfall create a magical and unforgettable moment for travelers.,
The Trek and the Waterfall Experience
To aid hikers, ropes are strategically placed along the more difficult parts of the trail, providing support and safety. Crossing a small river is also part of the journey, though the water is usually shallow but can have a strong current. Renting rubber shoes is recommended for better grip and comfort.
Once you arrive, the Rainbow Waterfall is impressive with its cascading water. The pool at its base is cool and refreshing, offering a perfect spot for a swim after the hike. While the rainbow is the main draw, the natural beauty of the falls and the surrounding jungle provide a serene and invigorating experience.,
