What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
IOI City Mall is a massive, modern destination praised for its vast selection of shops, diverse dining, and extensive entertainment options like adventure parks and ice skating. Visitors appreciate its clean, well-maintained environment and thoughtful design, making it a pleasant place to spend a whole day. However, its sheer size can be overwhelming, and parking can be confusing.
"Opened in November 2014, The City Mall in Putrajaya stands as a modern shopping and leisure destination that blends contemporary architecture with functional design. The structure is impressively spacious, yet its layout is intuitive and easy to navigate. Thoughtfully designed lighting throughout the mall adds to the inviting ambiance, making it a pleasant place to stroll, shop, or relax.
The mall features a wide range of mid-range retail brands, catering to a variety of shoppers. Its food offerings are equally diverse, with restaurants and cafés available both inside and outside the mall. One of the highlights is the beautiful fountain located at the entrance, which offers a refreshing breeze — especially welcome during Malaysia’s hot summer months.
During my visit, the mall was hosting an exhibition of bonsai plants — miniature trees cultivated through traditional Japanese techniques that emphasize patience, care, and aesthetic harmony. It was a quiet yet fascinating highlight that added a cultural dimension to the shopping experience.
The third floor is particularly vibrant, housing an IMAX cinema, a karaoke lounge, and even a cat-themed café — a quirky and enjoyable stop for animal lovers.
If you prefer a quieter experience, it’s best to visit on weekdays. Weekends are often lively with events and performances, which can make it hard to even hold a conversation.
Although Putrajaya is located about 30 minutes by train from Kuala Lumpur, The City Mall is definitely worth the trip for its calm atmosphere, thoughtful design, and variety of attractions."

"This massive mall lives up to its reputation as one of the largest in Malaysia. The endless variety of shops and restaurants means you can easily spend a whole day here without running out of things to do.
Shopping is fantastic with everything from international brands to local boutiques. Food options are equally impressive - whether you want quick bites at the food court or a nice restaurant meal. The place stays clean and well-maintained despite the crowds.
Family-friendly features like the indoor playground and cinema make it great for kids. Parking is plentiful though the lots can be confusing. Weekends get packed but the spacious layout prevents it from feeling too cramped.
Rating: 4.5/5 - A must-visit mall that truly has something for everyone.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes - you'll be doing lots of walking! The basement level has some hidden gem eateries worth exploring."

"Looking for a place to chill and hangout or even do some shopping? When the weather gets pretty hot, no need to switch on the aircon kau kau. Just take a drive and head to IOI City Mall to enjoy the aircon and shop or walk to your heart’s content. Not only shopping, there are also lots of restaurants and snack booths to savour. One visit may not be enough to experience this place, as it is huge and contains lots of attractions and culinary choices to choose from."
