Planning Your Visit

Timing is Key for Submarine Access

The submarine interior can get crowded quickly. Consider visiting during off-peak hours or on weekdays to ensure a smoother entry and a more comfortable exploration of the confined spaces. Batch entry is sometimes implemented, so be prepared for potential waits.

Manage Expectations for a Compact Experience

While unique, the museum features one submarine and two fighter jets. It's a smaller attraction, so plan your visit accordingly. It's a great addition to a Melaka itinerary, but perhaps not a full-day destination on its own.

Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Submarine Museum a unique and affordable attraction, particularly enjoying the chance to explore a real submarine's interior. While some note the limited number of exhibits and potential for crowds in tight spaces, the well-maintained environment and historical insights make it a worthwhile stop for many.

"Entrance fee RM10 for adult, RM5 for kid and senior citizen. Foreigner price double. Feel that the service can be improved a bit with this price as it is just a very small “museum” putting only 2 Jurassic fighter jets and 1 small submarine. Crowd control and toilet can be improved. The submarine is very small that it’s better not to allow more than 10 or certain people entering at once. Suggest they allow visitors to enter as batch and let other visitor do some other things while they wait to enter. It’s definitely better than keeping everyone on long queue waiting for someone to take photos. Also the car park is limited."

siauhwa tew

"The museum was clean, well-maintained, and had a calm atmosphere that made it easy to explore. The exhibits that were available were interesting and nicely presented, but the space did feel a bit empty, with fewer displays than expected. Still, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the overall experience was pleasant. Worth a visit if you enjoy a quieter, more relaxed museum experience"

Min Cuan Chua

"This place is simple with one submarine and 2 jets only. However, it is eye-opening to visit the inside of the submarine. This place is well maintained. It will be nice if they upgrade this place with more attractions or war-related vessels."

Exploring the Submarine: A Unique Experience

The centerpiece of the Muzium Kapal Selam is the decommissioned French-made Quessant (S623), an Agosta 70-class submarine. This vessel, once used for training by the Royal Malaysian Navy, offers visitors an unparalleled opportunity to step inside a working submarine. You can navigate through its narrow corridors, peek into the cramped crew quarters, and marvel at the intricate control room. This immersive experience provides a tangible connection to maritime history and the challenging realities of underwater naval operations. Reddit

Visitors often describe the interior as eye-opening, offering a rare glimpse into the confined yet functional environment where submariners lived and worked. While the space is limited, the museum has made efforts to preserve the authenticity of the submarine's interior, making it a fascinating exploration for those curious about naval technology and history. It's a stark contrast to the open spaces often found in other museums, offering a truly unique perspective. Reddit

It's important to note that due to the confined nature of the submarine, it may not be suitable for individuals who are claustrophobic. The museum staff often manage entry in batches to ensure a more comfortable experience for everyone, but be prepared for potential waiting times, especially during peak hours. Reddit

Beyond the Submarine: Fighter Jets and History

While the submarine is the main draw, the Submarine Museum also features two vintage fighter jets displayed on its grounds. These aircraft add an impressive aerial dimension to the maritime collection, showcasing a different facet of military history. They provide excellent photo opportunities and complement the overall theme of defense and naval prowess. Reddit

The museum serves as a compact yet informative stop for those interested in military history. The exhibits, though limited in number, are well-maintained and presented in a way that educates visitors about naval operations and the technology involved. It's a place where you can learn about the Royal Malaysian Navy's past and appreciate the engineering marvels that have served the nation. Reddit

For a relatively small entrance fee, the museum offers a unique educational experience. It's often visited as part of a broader Melaka itinerary, providing a distinct attraction that stands out from the city's more traditional historical sites. TikTok+1
