"It was okay place to visit. The room was super quiet and some of the room does not have good ligthing. It was dimly lit.
When I went there I was the only person there. Not a single person or tour guide or a guard to keep watch the museum.

Lots of instruments, tools, keris/sword, traditional clothes & etc.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Historical Significance of Bastion House

The Malay and Islamic World Museum is housed within Bastion House, a building with a layered history. Originally developed by a British rubber company in 1910, its significance predates this. The site itself was once part of the formidable Malacca Fortress, a crucial defensive structure during the Malacca Sultanate and subsequent colonial periods. The British colonial government eventually demolished much of the original fortress, making Bastion House a remnant of this strategic location.

Visiting the museum offers a chance to connect with this historical ground. While the exhibits focus on Malay culture and Islamic art, the very walls of Bastion House whisper tales of Malacca's past as a powerful trading port and a contested territory. Understanding the building's history adds another dimension to the visitor's experience, bridging the gap between the artifacts displayed and the land they are presented upon.

This historical context is often overlooked by visitors focused solely on the museum's contents. However, appreciating Bastion House as a historical site itself enhances the overall understanding of Malacca's enduring legacy. It’s a reminder that the city’s rich tapestry is woven from centuries of trade, conflict, and cultural exchange. Reddit
