While the mall is a luxury shopping destination, it also offers mid-range and affordable options. "Suria" is a local Malay word derived from the Sanskrit "surya", meaning "sun". Opened on 8 May 1998, the mall was conceived as part of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) project. The mall overlooks KLCC Park and Lake Symphony.
Suria KLCC has 140,000 square metres (1,500,000 sq ft) of space spread over six levels. The mall also houses an art gallery, an underwater aquarium, a science discovery centre, a 12-screen cinema and a concert hall. The shopping mall's floor plan is crescent-shaped, with three ground-level exits facing Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramli and Persian Petronas, with direct access to the towers' lobbies, Petronas Philharmonic Hall and Lake Symphony. At the concourse level, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) entrance is found at the Ampang end, and the entrance to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre is via a tunnel in the Centre Court.
