"I recently purchased a pair of white linen pants from the British India store in BSC. I was told it is their best seller pants. Although over priced (as with all of British India clothes), I liked the cut and decided to buy it along with a black top (100% tencel ) as I intended to use it as a set.
When I used the linen pants a few days later, I noticed the inner button missing but didn't think much of it. It can be replaced. The next day as I was about to put it to wash, I noticed in day light the top part of the pants lightly smeared with a red colour. It was smudges of red which looked like either makeup or foundation but at the back of the pants and the front pocket area. Some places more obvious than others. I could have washed it but if it was something else, it might leave a permanent stain. Wasn't sure if it was coming from the linen itself.
I took the pants back to BI to exchange it but they said they needed to send it in for analysing. Today their management has refused to exchange it saying its the colour of my blouse that has rubbed onto it. They suggest I wash or dry clean it. That was their final analysis and decision.
I was furious and disappointed at their final and random assumption.
I am furious because I wore a black top with it. I am furious that tencel can run onto linen ? Never heard of it.
I am furious because how can colour transfer onto an item by rubbing..... unless it was washed or the garment wet. I have not washed the pants since purchase. I am taken a back that they can suggest something so ridiculous as this.
I'm furious that what they are actually confirming is that the quality of their garment must be so cheap that it can absorb and transfer colour so easily like this. I'm also disappointed that a shop like British India cannot be gracious enough to exchange the item when a customer says something's amiss and not analyse it only to come back with a stupid reason.
I own many linen tops and bottom from all over the world. This is the first time I'm learning that colour can transfer onto linen by mere fiction of a blouse which is of tencel material. Also that black, when rubbed with white linen gives out the colour red.
My suggestion to future buyers, check your items carefully before leaving the store. You might be paying top price for very poor quality. Also the customer's words are questionable while their reasoning, no matter how ridiculous, is logical and correct.
