Reviews Summary

Pulau Tikus Market is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, offering a fantastic array of fresh produce in the morning and a bustling hawker food scene in the evening. Visitors praise the delicious and reasonably priced local dishes, particularly the roast pork and curry noodles, and enjoy the authentic cultural experience. Some find the market can be crowded and a bit unpolished, but this is often seen as part of its charm.

"Here’s a detailed review of Pulau Tikus Wet Market (Penang)

1. Great variety of food & local culture
The market is known for its hawker and street food offerings, especially breakfast and evening hawker stalls. Char Koay Teow, Koay Teow Th’ng, lok lok, Nyonya kuihs, prawn noodles, etc. are commonly praised.
Also, there’s a strong Peranakan / Nyonya influence, meaning you’ll find sweets (“kuehs”), nonya curries, special kuih sellers, and even mobile hawkers.
2. Fresh produce, meats, seafood
Many visitors comment that the fresh produce section is appealing, with good selection. For people who shop early in the morning, this is a big draw.
3. Vivid local atmosphere
People enjoying the hustle, mingling, the sensory experience (sights, sounds, smells). It’s seen as more than just shopping — part of Penang’s character. Breakfast at kopitiams, wandering through stalls, etc.
4. Reasonable prices (some say)
Some stalls are seen as offering good value, especially for food and produce when compared to more touristy or upscale places. "

"Don't worry! I was there for about two hours plus, and I didn't see a single tikus! They might be elusive for all I know.

This is a charming little market. We came here early, which helped in a way, because we could get seats when we were eating, it wasn't too crowded yet, and we got the last of some merchandize before they ran out.

There are combinations of food stalls and food lorry (yes, lorry), market stalls, small permanent shops and semi permanent stalls for goods and fresh produces. The products are fresh and enticing, the meat stall that we bought from had exceptional quality. Prices are reasonable, you can negotiate a bit.

The condition of the market is decent, it's not sparkling, there are water ponding here and there, but overall it's clean, and there are wash basins to wash your hands. I have been to better wet markets and those that are far worse. This one does well enough to warrant the stars for me.

Nearby area, there are coffee shop, DIY shops etc, so it's an easy and recognizable landmark and you can combine your shopping if necessary."
