What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lord Stow's Bakery is celebrated for its iconic Portuguese Egg Tarts, with visitors praising the perfectly crisp, buttery pastry and rich, creamy custard. Many consider it a must-visit pilgrimage for its delicious taste and nostalgic charm. While queues are common, the consistent quality across locations makes it a worthwhile stop for a sweet treat.
"A visit to Lord Stow’s Bakery in Coloane is a cherished ritual. The quiet queue, the warm box of a dozen tarts—it’s a pilgrimage for the senses. That first bite is pure bliss: the audibly crisp, flaky pastry shatters to reveal a wobbly, rich custard with its signature caramelized top.
Yet, this time, the experience was beautifully bittersweet. The familiar flavour instantly transported me back to a pastry shop in Portugal, a reward after completing the Camino last year. While Lord Stow's version is slightly richer and creamier than the classic pastél de nata, it evoked the same profound comfort. It’s not a perfect replica, but until I can return to Portugal, this is the most delicious and worthy tribute—a sweet, warm mouthful that vividly remembers a journey from a year ago."

"Of course I had to try the OG of the tart. Tried their branch at Venetian Macau and also the original shop at Coloane since 'netizens' say they taste different. Tarts at both venues taste the same to me. And oh, yes, this is my #1 rank. Gosh... It was so good! Flaky pastry, buttery, warm, creamy egg custard with the just right amount of sweetness. The egg custard has the right consistency too and stays put even after one bite (compared to Margaret's)"

"One of three locations on various sides of this one cluster of buildings. This one seems the busiest, so if you don't find luck here then circle the block and maybe you'll have better luck at one of the others!
Come here for the egg tarts. That's what made Lord Stow famous, and not without good reason. These are delicious. The crust/shell is extremely buttery and because of that, a bit on the salty side. The egg custard is balanced well - not too bland and not overly sweet. Truly a taste of modern Macau that touches on Macau's history under the Portuguese. Worth the trip here if you're in the neighborhood!"
