What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Tin Hau Palace to be an impressive and peaceful attraction within the A-Ma Cultural Village, praised for its vibrant murals, intricate carvings, and stunning sea views. While the temple itself is relatively new, its artistic details and serene atmosphere make it a worthwhile stop, especially with the convenience of free entry and shuttle access.
"Not to be confused with the ancient Tin Hau Temple in the nearby seaside village of Coloane, this is a much more recently constructed temple dedicated to the Goddess Tin Hau found up on the Coloane mountainside at the A-Ma Cultural Village.
This temple was inaugurated in 2003 and takes the form of a palace hall with an auspicious exterior and interior. The exterior walls are covered with interesting and brightly coloured murals, you will see Chinese style roofing with decorative dragons as well as columns in front of the entrance with impressive dragon carvings.
Within Tin Hau, you will find three shrines with large scale deity figures. The wall behind them is delicately carved and golden in colour. The wooden carving work above head is worth spending a few minutes to enjoy, as are the giant vases found near the back entrances of the main hall on both sides of the shrines. These are likely 5 metres tall each. There is an impressive mural panel at the back of the main hall that is worth a moment to view before exiting the temple.
In the end, there are several interesting things to see at the A-Ma Cultural Village but the Tin Hau Temple is the most impressive. This is the feature attraction of the village park area and is worth at least 10-15 minutes of your time to enjoy."
