What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise Macau for its unique blend of Portuguese and Chinese culture, evident in its stunning architecture and delicious cuisine. The historical sites are a major draw, offering a glimpse into its colonial past. However, some find the city can feel overly commercialized, and navigation can be challenging.
"You could spend some time here fishing or just enjoying the scenery."
Ngabdul Khalim
"Ponte Cais de Coloane (Coloane Pier) is the historic pier located along Rua dos Navagantes in the village of Coloane. This particular pier was constructed in 1873 to replace an earlier structure. It is of simple European architecture and creme yellow in colour, in the manner of many of colonial period buildings.
In the past, this was an important pier for Coloane which was a separate island prior to land reclamations of the 20th century. This meant that ferry transportation was crucial for connecting the island to Taipa Island, Macau Peninsula as well as to mainland China. As such, this was a fairly bus pier at the turn of the 20th century.
During the last century, land reclamations linked up Taipa and Coloane and bridges were built to connect Taipa to the Macau Peninsula. Add the automobile and public buses to the picture and the ferry needs at this historic pier faded into memory.
However, when you visit the Coloane Pier, you will notice a single customs officer on duty as vessels still ply the waters here between mainland China and Coloane. This is neat to see if a boat happens to stop by at the time of your visit."

"Pier built in 1960’s. It used to be an important port for transporting goods over the sea."
