Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Bock Casemates for their stunning panoramic views and the fascinating historical insights into Luxembourg's defensive past. The underground tunnels offer a unique experience, and the site is generally well-organized. "Very beautiful view!
We loved it!
Despite the masses of foreign tourists we never felt trapped or stuck.
Everything is very good organized and the paths are big enough to walk around.
There is a free escalator available (up to 25 persons) to travel up and down to the highest or lowest point.
Absolute recommendation!
Bring enough time to see all the beautiful things around.
Visit the church, walk the little paths.

Enjoy the small river and feel the warmth of luxembourg.

The people are awesome and very friendly.

The architecture is historic and modern at the same time.
We discovered the city as a coincidence and we fell in love with it.
Visit the nice little cozy restaurants, the bars, have a chat and enjoy the hospitality we experienced."

"A Weekend Well Spent in Luxembourg!

Classmates Luxembourg was an absolute delight! We were lucky with the weather, which made our visit even better. We spent hours walking around, exploring the stunning views from various angles, and truly soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

We drove there by car and had no trouble finding parking—plenty of space, no waiting, and reasonably priced. The area is well-equipped with restaurants and food stalls, perfect for grabbing a quick bite on the go.

Overall, it was a wonderful weekend escape. Highly recommended for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy some breathtaking scenery!"

"It ok, quite expensive for a few casements. Most the views are either obscured or the same as the last casement, you visited. I don’t think it’s worth €10 and adult.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an impressive feat of workmanship but you don’t really need to go inside to see them. Take photos from the top and the battlements on the bridge instead."

A Journey Through History: The Bock Casemates

The Bock Casemates are a remarkable testament to Luxembourg's strategic military past. Construction began in 1644 under Spanish rule, with significant expansions by the French engineer Vauban in the late 17th century. These extensive underground galleries and tunnels were designed as a formidable defense system, capable of housing troops and artillery. Over centuries, they evolved, serving as a refuge during various conflicts, including World War II, where they were used as bomb shelters. Today, a portion of this UNESCO World Heritage site is open to the public, offering a tangible connection to the city's layered history. TikTokReddit+3

Exploring the casemates is like stepping back in time. Visitors can wander through the dimly lit tunnels, imagining the soldiers who once patrolled these corridors. The sheer scale of the fortifications is impressive, and it's fascinating to learn about the engineering prowess required to build such a complex underground network. While not all of the original casemates are accessible, the open sections provide a substantial and engaging experience. TikTokReddit

Beyond their military function, the Bock Casemates offer stunning panoramic views of the Alzette River valley and the picturesque Grund district. These viewpoints were strategically chosen for defense but now provide visitors with breathtaking vistas of Luxembourg City. The contrast between the ancient fortifications and the modern cityscape visible from these vantage points is striking. TikTok+2

Experiencing Luxembourg City from Above and Below

The Bock Casemates are intrinsically linked to the unique topography of Luxembourg City, which is built on a series of plateaus and valleys. The underground network of casemates is complemented by incredible viewpoints accessible from the surface. The Chemin de la Corniche, often dubbed 'the most beautiful balcony in Europe,' offers unparalleled vistas of the lower town and the river. TikTok

To further enhance the experience of navigating Luxembourg's vertical landscape, the Pfaffenthal Panoramic Elevator provides a modern marvel. This glass-floored elevator descends from the upper city to the Pfaffenthal district, offering dizzying heights and spectacular views along the way. It's a fantastic way to appreciate the city's layout and the scale of the Bock Casemates from a different perspective. TikTok+1

This allows for a comprehensive understanding of how the city's defenses and its stunning natural setting have shaped its identity. The combination of historical underground exploration and breathtaking aerial views makes for an unforgettable visit. TikTok+1
