What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Afqa Waterfall is a stunning natural site, particularly beautiful in spring, but recent visits reveal concerns about maintenance and upkeep. While the waterfall's grandeur is undeniable, some visitors have experienced discomfort due to unsolicited requests for money and noted the area's neglect. The historical significance of the Adonis Temple adds to its appeal, but caution is advised near the unstable Afqa Cave.
"November 11th 2025
No water no glory
Can only imagine how beautiful this place can be.
Careful when going near the cave as the fallen rocks indicate instability to the cave walls and danger to your life!"

"We visited Afqa Waterfall during our recent trip to Lebanon. This spot has always held a special place in my heart — it’s absolutely beautiful, and I’ve made a point to visit whenever I can. My last visit was five years ago, and sadly, I noticed quite a difference this time.
The natural beauty is still there, but it’s disappointing to see the area so poorly maintained. There was rubbish scattered around, and the area near the so-called restaurants — where I used to be able to go down and take stunning photos — felt neglected.
My daughter and I made the trek down a narrow trail to take some pictures when a man suddenly approached us on a scooter, asking for money. This has never happened in the past, and it made us feel quite uneasy. It was an unfortunate moment that overshadowed what should have been a peaceful visit.
Lebanon has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty, but I really hope the tourism authorities start giving places like Afqa the attention and care they deserve. Visitors should be able to enjoy these wonders without feeling uncomfortable or unsafe. Slightly disappointing overall, but I still hold hope for positive change in the future."

Be aware that the Afqa Cave is unlit and has unstable walls, making it unsuitable for young children. The Natural Splendor of Afqa Waterfall
Beyond the waterfall itself, the surrounding area holds historical significance. Adjacent to the falls are the ruins of the Adonis Temple, an ancient site that offers a glimpse into the region's past. The temple provides excellent vantage points for photography, allowing visitors to capture panoramic views of the waterfall and the lush valley. The Afqa Cave, located behind the waterfall, is another point of interest, though it remains unlit and unguided, presenting a mysterious and potentially hazardous environment. Visitors are strongly advised to exercise caution due to the instability of the cave walls.
Recent visitor feedback highlights a decline in maintenance and upkeep, with reports of litter and a general sense of neglect in some areas. This has led to a mixed experience for some, contrasting with fond memories of past visits. Despite these concerns, the inherent natural beauty of Afqa Waterfall continues to draw visitors seeking to experience one of Lebanon's most iconic natural landmarks.
Navigating Visitor Experience and Safety
Safety is a paramount concern, particularly around the Afqa Cave. Fallen rocks indicate instability, and visitors are warned against venturing too close to the cave walls. The terrain can also be uneven, so wearing appropriate footwear is essential. While some visitors mention swimming in the refreshing, albeit very cold, waters, it's crucial to assess conditions and personal comfort levels before entering.
Despite the challenges, the natural allure of Afqa Waterfall remains strong. Responsible tourism practices, such as respecting the environment and being mindful of local customs, can contribute to a more positive experience. Visitors are encouraged to check recent reviews and local advice before their trip to stay informed about current conditions and any potential issues.
