"We rented a boat and floated about 17km of the river. The arrangement was good, the price was acceptable, the boat was of good quality. What is a problem, however, are the locals who also float the river. Every other group of boats was under the vlime of varnish, very noisy, and it was not uncommon for people on the boat to have a loud speaker playing the local horrible music to the whole valley. All this in a national park. Latvia should decide what it wants to do - preserve nature or extract money from tourists regardless of the consequences. An otherwise nice river trip was thus spoiled by the behaviour of drunken Latvians. The campsite was pleasantly small and well-priced, and it was quiet at night, with only an annoying noise coming from the nearby disco until the morning. The 1990s ended two decades ago and the Balkans are several thousand kilometres away, such an attitude is unworthy of a civilised nation."
