What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Charyn Canyon is widely praised as a breathtaking natural wonder, often compared to a miniature Grand Canyon. Visitors are captivated by the unique red rock formations in the Valley of Castles and the serene Charyn River at the canyon's end. While the hike can be challenging, especially in heat, the stunning views and geological beauty make it a must-visit destination in Kazakhstan.
"It's a very challenging hike if you do it mid day in July. Generally, I don't think it's worth doing it unless it's nice and cool weather, since Charyn river at the end of the hike is nothing spectacular.
There is nice visitor center at the top, where you can buy water and souvenirs."

"Our trip to Charyn Canyon was an unforgettable experience. The drive itself was smooth and filled with stunning landscapes. The site is well-organized, with ample parking and a few restaurants nearby to grab a meal before or after your visit. There’s a small entrance fee for both the vehicle and travelers.
Once you park, there’s a station where you can either walk down into the canyon or take a shuttle. The hike down is scenic, and at the end of the canyon, there’s a peaceful river where many visitors—especially younger crowds—tend to relax. Although we couldn’t reach all the way to the river, we managed a 1–2 km trek and then climbed back up.
The view from the top is absolutely breathtaking — the vastness and beauty of the canyon are truly awe-inspiring. A must-visit destination in Kazakhstan!"
